Default those with roll cages in their R's

I am looking to possibly get a roll cage for my R so I will be able to take it to the drag strip. As of right now, I do not have one and if I go, I will get one pass before they tell me I cannot run anymore.

I was looking at the cusco cage for pricing purposes and plus for the car show events so hopefully enter and win some show class events. I know these are not the best cages and I should get one welded in but I am apprehensive of getting a cage welded.

I would like to keep my back seat as well.

There are local shops that have done roll cages for some of my friends cars and others around my area but I do not like the aesthetic quality of them.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Just FYI, I dont take my car to the drag strip frequently, maybe 2 times a year when there are car events and other than that its my weekend car now.

Dont waste you time on the Cusco death cage.

Get yourself an autopower and call it a day. http://www.safedrives.com/products.asp?cat=103

Ummm...how fast is your car? You drive an ITR on the street that can run an 11.49?

NHRA requirements:

Do I need a helmet, and if so, what kind?
A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL K98, M2000, SA2000, M2005, or SA2005 specifications. Professional category and some alcohol burning vehicles require an SA rated helmet. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. The designation stenciled on the exterior of the helmet is insufficient for NHRA technical inspection. Also, some tracks require a helmet on ALL drivers, so check in advance.

When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

If the floor and/or firewall has been modified, then a full roll cage is required beginning at a 10.99 e.t. A full roll cage is required in any vehicle running 9.99 seconds or quicker, and any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing, or 1 5/8 x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

The roll cage of any vehicle running 9.99 or quicker, or 135 mph or faster, must also be certified by NHRA every 3 years, and have a serialized sticker affixed prior to participation.

Unless you want to be stabbed in the heart with that expensive Cusco "steel", I would definitely check out Autopower before looking at a custom setup.

make sure you study the NHRA guidlines if you plan to do some serious racing. there are alot of other weird requirements you run into such as the mounting plates for the roll cage to the body must be a 6" x 6"

While we're on the subject, the Autopower ones don't require you to cut away any interior sections correct? Always wondered because down the line I'd like to get one but I'm not willing to cut away interior. I've seen cages where cutting isn't necessary, just didn't know the brand.

I believe it requires that you cut out a section of the rear interior panels for it to bolt to the shock tower.

I didn't want to cut into anything in my interior as well.

Forgot to add that whichever cage that I got, I don't want it to hinder me from entering and exiting the car. I really didn't want a cage that has a horizontal or diagonal bar that makes it hard for me or passenger to get in and out.

Well I guess you don't want a cage or a harness bar.

Also, is everyone against bolt in cages or is it the cusco cage in particular that most people are against and not bolt in cages in general?

Thanks

Mostly against cusco but a bolt in Autopower is still better than most, Weld in would be the most ideal for sure.

yeah i understand that the weld in ones are best. i know i will not be buying a cage for awhile now since money is tight since i just finished my build but i need to do research before i buy one.

it looks like i will go with an autopower one.

my car is still as if a daily and not strictly a race car so i want it to be comfortable for both me and my passenger. (i.e. i dont want to have a car behind my seat where i cant recline) yes i know beggers cant be choosers and i might have to eventually go with a custom cage but like i said, im trying to get what is best for what i use my car for the most which is...driving it on weekends for fun and occasional drag strip.

im just looking for a simple 6 pt cage like the cusco one but not the cusco one haha

and with respect to the auto power bolt in cages, how is the fitment of those because they seem to be made for all cars and not our dc2 specific?

sorry for so many questions, i just want to make sure that i am making my investment wisely.

idealy i want a cage like this one...http://www.bulletproofautomotive.com...il.php?ID=3913
