Does anyone have any experience with the Mugen header? If anyone can tell me the gains or anything about them that would be helpful. Also for the price would you recommend it over an other header in that price range? Thanks.
There are no other headers in that price range, except for JUN, which I have never heard an opinion on.
Eventually SMSP will have a header in that price range, that will surely be much much better.

i just had the pleasure of selling my friends jun ss header to hot_eg. great header and a great design. h22a headers are tough due to spacement issues. but my friends 5th gen. had a healthy dose of power from the header. especially top end and midrange.
and i just sold it for an unbelievable price of $450 shipped.
the fact of the matter is, lots of people on the board talk about the smsp header and what not, but maybe 2-3 people will actually go out and spend the $1000 it will take to purchase. that's why dc is such a handsome alternative at 1/3 of the price.

forget that...if your gonna mod your car, and run a test-pipe...get the greddy SS header, it made a nice improvement on my car over my DC header...i know they technically dont make on for the 5th gen, but if your gonna run a test pipe it wont matter, it bolts up, and goes to the hanger, just the length is diff....peace

Mugen VS Stock. Stock is stock. Modded plot is only Mugen header, Mugen Cat-back, and removed air intake snorkle. (Stock airbox remains). I got VERY nice gains all the way across the power band.

what did you do to get 182 whp?
...Just Mugen header, Mugen Catback, and removed intake resonator. It's a 2000 Base Prelude 5spd.Andrew

Yeah, just so there's no confusion, those two graphs are the exact same plots. The first one just has the SAE corrected numbers, and the second one is the actual power numbers. I like the second one better because I had a crappy correction factor of 0.95 (-5%) the day that I went...

holy crap! those are some good A$$ results
! But I would think that it better have that much hp and trq increase for that much money. How much did you pay for your Mugen header and Exhaust and from where? I think I am going to buy them sometime in the future when I have that much.

when it comes to dealers, you pretty much cant add or change anything in the engine bay without a hassle. For some mods they might still warranty you though. But those mods are few, and depend largely upon the dealer.
That's not true. Honda of America has consistantly sided with customers to honor warranty on cars with simple I/H/E bolt-ons. When you start changing things lke flywheels, pulleys, and adding A/F and VTEC controllers, that's when you start getting resistance from them... Simple I/H/E bolt ons are difficult to blame for any kind of engine failure. The dealer/Honda must be able to make a clear case that the failure of any warranted part was directly related to the use of an aftermarket part in order to claim a void of warranty.
The only thing I can think of that Honda might be able to argue about failing due to simply changing the header might be the O2 sensors or cat-converter. And even that would be a specious arguement in most cases...

Are those plots on a dynojet or mustang dyno? If they are dynojet they will read a little higher. This is prob the case and why U have high numbers for the I/H/E set up. A stock prelude 5th gen, will put out about 145HP on a mustang dyno.

that's nice, but most people in the import world do not dyno on mustang dynos.
the numbers look very good.
i've seen plenty of 5th gen.'s struggle to even make anything close to 175whp with i/h/e so this is very impressive.
money, is just money. for some the quality is worth the extra cost.

The numbers my be higher but the difference in gain would probably be the same though. If you disregard the numbers and just concentrate on the gain, it's impressive. Good job!

Dynojet, Mustang, corrected, uncorrected, none of that matters. The plots or curves would look exactly the same regardless. Just ignore the numbers. As nice as they may look or not look, they are not really meaningful for comparison to other people's dynos. Look at the area above the low curve and below the high curve - The area in between the baseline and the modded plots. That's the power gain, and that's what's important.
