Valve Adjustment
I was going to go through the writeup thats here on HT but I ran into a problem. I have a 95 Civic EX and I do not see the bolt for the crank pulley that I'm supposed to turn to get to TDC. Is it possible that the bolt just isnt there? Does anyone have any idea why its not there or maybe have some better pictures of it? Oh and any tips on adjusting my valves are welcome.
you want to adjust valves and you can't find your crank pulley bolt..
did you try looking in the center of your crank pulley???
anyways.. here's some info for doing the valves
Valves should be adjusted cold.
-intake: 0.007-0.009, exhaust: 0.009-0.011
-Set No. 1 piston at top dead center with mark on camshaft pulley at top and TDC groove on back of pulley aligning with cylinder head surface. Also, distributor rotor should point toward No. 1. plug wire terminal
-Loosen locknut and turn adjustment screw until feeler slides back and forth with slight amount of drag. Then tighten intake and exhaust valve locknut to specification.
-Rotate crankshaft 180°counterclockwise. TDC groove on camshaft pulley should align with index mark on timing belt cover, and distributor rotor should point toward No. 3. Check clearance on No. 3 cylinder and adjust as in step 2.
-Rotate crankshaft 180°counterclockwise. TDC groove should align with cylinder head surface, and distributor rotor should point toward No. 4. Check clearance on No. 4 cylinder and adjust as in step 2.
-Rotate crankshaft 180 degrees counterclockwise. Mark on pulley should be visible, and distributor rotor should point toward No. 2. Check clearance on No. 2 cylinder and adjust as in step 2.

Well my older brother that seems to know everything about cars and hondas in particular so he decided to adjust them without feeler gauges or getting the motor to TDC. Well long story short he ****ed it up. So now hes gone and I want to adjust them myself. I have a chiltons manual and i understand all of it except the crank pulley belt. And in this guide:

I dont seem to see that bolt in the 8th picture. So would it just be easier to take off the timing belt cover to access that bolt right there on the crank pulley?

I've never done it on a honda before but sometimes on older cars the bolt can get so caked with crud it's tough to see exactly where it is (I'd be surprised if this is the case with a 90's model but hey). I'd say before you do anything try and scrub down the areas you'll be working on as much as possible. Makes it look nice and it also helps you get familiar with a new car's layout.

Are you saying you are missing the star-looking hole, or the splash shield?
Now, if in fact you do NOT have a crank pulley bolt on there, you have much bigger problems that can lead quickly to catastrophic engine failure.
What you're seeing in that picture is the splash shield. You can take it off for easier access to the crank pulley bolt, but you should be able to get to it through the little star looking hole.
