turbo or swap motor then turbo
hello all,
i have been deciding this for a long time and couldn't make the decision.
i drive a 98 ek hatch with a b16b motor and wants a bit power. Im not looking at big hp gains, but just a daily driver with decent amout of torque.
at the moment i just have the basic bolt on parts. (intake, header, exhaust and spoon ecu) currently on obd2a.
i was going to buy a decent turbo kit and running on 8 psi but since the b16b have such high compression, would it be a problem?
if i were to turbo this motor, what kind of parts i should acquire or upgrade?
what kind of things i should look out for?
OR
should i sell the motor and look for a lower compression motor?
any kind of advice would be great.

you can run boost on high compression motors as long as the tune is on point
also look at your goals with a hp number not as psi because thats all relative depending on what size turbo

assuming that 1psi=10hp at low compression; 8psi on a high compression motor would be pushing close to 100hp extra. that would put you needing to upgrade your clutch and tires at the least. its very doable and streetable for a dd if you can resist the small pedal on the right, but if you go turbo i would strongly recommend you finding/towing your car to a very knowledgeable/reputable tuner in your area.

i was thinking of upgrading my clutch to a exedy stage one clutch kit, would that be enough or should i look to something like stage two?
since i will be doing my head gasket and a valve adjustment before putting in the turbo kit.
are there any parts that i should replace also?
i should be going back to obd1 for easy tuning? i also have a safc that i have, would it be any use at all? was thinking of using hondata, but there is also aem, which would be better?
for more reliablility should i consider getting bigger injectors and fuel pump also?
i run a 2.5 mugen catback exhaust at the moment. i know it would be better with a 3inch setup but im not looking for power, since im aiming only 250 hp.
should i consider upgrading my intake manifold to skunk2 or elderbrock instead of using the stock type r?

dont sell the motor. You can ad a turbo with stock internals and hope that it dosnt blow in a year or less depending on how you drive. are you looking at 250 whp?
LOL^ i guess the 15 hp you lose at the crank makes a huge difference between driveable and undriveable
really? a lot of cars bone stock are 250hp... how is that too much unless you cant handle the POWER!
looks like you have a long way before you should even consider boosting... like said before do your research
