since i have bought the car, 2nd gear has pretty much never worked. rarely you could get it in 2nd. and in any gear there was a ton of play. well i replaced the shifter and shifter bushings lastnight in hopes it would fix it. take the car out and things seem good. 2nd is working. then it randomly starts acting up again. you can baby it into 2nd and even slam it. works about 50% of the time now. other wise its a horrible grind. could it be bad synchro or a bent fork?

 

well you replaced the bushings and shaft already so it can only be the tranny I assume...but I know that the tranny in the 99 ex are pretty tough...

 

reverse acts up every once in a while. its mainly just 2nd though. every other gear there is no problem

 

I thought I read in a few threads that the reverse issue is common in several d-series transmissions. My '00 HX had trouble going into reverse. When I swapped in an EX trans, it did the same thing.

 

yea the reverse isnt a big deal to me. just try it a couple times if it acts up and it works. its 2nd that is killing me. im not wanting to spend the couple hundred on a new tranny when in the end thats money i could use toward a swap
