My Ek need a Engine, Whats a highly successful swap that passes inspection in NY?
Hello, My Ek hatch recently took a poop on me. It hit 303,000 miles..lol.. Then a rod bearing spun yesterday getting off the toll road.
The bottom line though is this.. I bought this car 3 years ago with intentions of putting a swap in... Now that My car needs a new heart.. I think i'm officially going to "do it". rather than buy something new..or drop the same little engine back into her.
I'm willing to do what it takes.
I live in NewYork though, where every year we have to pay $21 to have it inspected. And if the car is throwing codes, or a check engine light is on..it wont pass.
What is the easiest engine to drop in, with one of the highest success rates?..My mechanic is great...just spending 3k on a swap..and then not being able to drive it,.. would be the worst feeling.
So im thinking the smaller the engine...the easier the swap?...like a b16 rather than an h22? idk? my mechanic is great though..no fears of us getting it in...its just the damn code it may throw that we wont beable to turn off.
Any advice from anyone that lives in a state where inspections happen..Im open to listen.
Thanks,
-Nate

Just go for an Integra LS swap. You will have more fun with it, and will have more power for day to day driving, and they are cheap and super reliable
it depends if the swap has all the emissions control hardware on it. Plus you'll never know if its gonna throw a code until you get it in there no matter what engine you put in there
truth on not knowing what codes it will throw. when my car got swapped the only code it was throwing was for secondary 02 which my car never came with. a nice motor would be an ls, but i would recommend a gsr transmission to be able to keep up with the pace of traffic without having to dog your car.
