Buying a used '00 S2K with 123K MILES?! - What should I check?
Hi guys im from Canada, the land were all vehicles are are 3x as much from our US neighbours. There is a S2000 for sale relatively close and the price the buyer is willing to let it go at- his lowest- is 7500.
its grey with red leather interior. Obviously from the KM there is some wear and whatnot on the seats judging from the pics.
I need all the help I can get before looking at this to ensure its a good deal or garbage.
Help a soon to be 2k owner out !!
thanks guys !

I am also from Canada and i recently picked up a MY00 with 29,000km for $18,400. Mine was a one owner, extremely mint Canadian car. I will consider my car as a relatively decent deal at this time of year. I think the asking price of $7,500 is pretty reasonable considering i have seen cars with 194,000km asking for $13,000. But make sure you do a compression/leak down test before making the purchase. That will tell the condition of the engine. GL.
i'd just take it to a dealership and have a pre-buy inspection done on it if you are not familiar with the cars.
better than people bs'ing you on a web-forum about what to look for....

long day, kinda stressed and was excited to see some helpfull info when I logged in and noticed a reply.
But the poster just responded to the most usless sentace I had in my post in the form of sarcasm without offering anything of substance. It just caught me off guard at the wrong time.
It happens to all of us but since you apologized:
- Check the top of the radiator for stress cracks
- Do a compression and leak down test
- Do quick accel, decel (just up to 3.5k RPMs and then back down again) in 1st and 2nd gear to check for any unusual sounds coming from the rear.
- If you can, take off the valve cover and look for any cracked retainers. The very thinnest of cracks can be a major concern
- After the transmission is warmed up see how shifting into 3rd feels as that is the trouble gear on AP1s.
