Default my 1994 EG hatch Build Thread

i have this posted in the 92-95 civic/del sol section of Honda-Tech but just realized this section is much more appropriate, so sorry if your seeing this for the second time now. Anyways, onto my build...

So this is more of a budget build thread, not doing any engine mods because its my daily driver and i commute a lot, so im looking for efficiency. Just want something that looks nice and is reliable.

Bought this gem on April 30th, 2010. Found in on Craigslist, drove up to Sunnyvale the next day to pick it up.

1994 Honda Civic DX hatchback, 152k miles, salvage title (was in a minor front end collision, pretty much only the front right fender and headlight were damaged but somehow it was cheaper for him to replace the whole front end). So the body isnt perfect, but only noticeable if you look closely. I just sold my 2004 VW Golf TDI which had some nice mods. Before that i owned a GTI VR6 and later a 1.8t, so as you can tell i was a VW guy for awhile haha. Decided to get something a little cheaper and more reliable, and always loved the EG hatch. I had a nice amount of money to play with after i sold my TDI so thats when i started on this thing.

The day i bought it:

and my friend washing it for me haha:

The next day i started stripping all the interior so i could give everything a nice high pressure wash. The interior was FILTHY. I also changed the spark plugs, new wires, changed the oil, air filter etc.

Since then i've put most of the interior back in, and everything looks 100% better. Put a new stereo as well as new 6.5" speakers in, and plan on mounting 2 more 6.5's in the back.

Over the past few weeks i've been accumulating a tasty pile of goods in my room:

So far i've purchased:
- Function and Form type 1 adjustable coilovers with blox LCA's (although i've been reading some bad reviews on the LCA's)
- new clear/red tailights
- pre cut window tint 35% all around
- Clarion CD receiver with sony 6.5" speakers
- 15x8 XXR 501 Hyper Silver with 195/50/15 tires
- tuner style lug nuts

Got the wheels/tires mounted and balanced and brought them home and installed them. They really poke! a little more than i was expecting, but i still love em regardless. Haven't really seen these on an EG yet in the Hyper Silver. Will definitely look better once the coilovers go on

A few comparion shots...

A couple shots installed...

That's it for right now, comments and criticisms are welcome, as well as any input or pointers. If you have any ideas for a good color as well let me know.

quick shot of my old TDI:

I've been keeping track of every single purchase that i've made regarding my EG (and trust me, its been a lot haha i have a huge pile of boxes in my room), and so far i've spent around $4k on it. To get everything the way i want it, it should be another $500-1000.

Rear coils just went in, dropped it down to under a 2 finger gap between fender and tire. It looks really good. I took for a test drive and had zero rubbing issues, and took some pretty sharp turns. Im gonna let them settle for the next week or so and then get an alignment. So far they ride great and i love the stiffness (dont even say "thats what she said" haha). Pics will be up later

Ok, lets try this again. Yes, I put the LCA's on upside down the first time which explains the few comments below this. Yes, I realize I failed and yes, I feel retarded about it. Here are some new pictures after flipping the LCA's into the correct position:

It's not too much lower, but im very happy with how it looks. Going any lower just wouldn't be practical or functional.

Cheers to you for taking that as constructive criticism and not getting defensive and getting your panties in a wad. There have been a lot of people on here post build threads and a lot of them could stand to lighten up and have an attitude such as yours when it comes to other peoples opinions.

Car is looking good also. I know I say this a lot on people's build threads and most of the time no one ever comments on what I say or blow it off, etc but I will repeat it over and over again anyways hoping to save someone. I don't see a "Stealth Installed" alarm system on your car. I would seriously take that into consideration before your car is scoped out and easily stolen without any security. When I first got into Civics I had no security and worked my *** off to get my car how I wanted only to have it stolen and stripped, I have since learned my lesson.

PM me and I can give you a great site with Alarm/Security info. A lot of people say Alarms are no good, most of the people that say that had a generic alarm install which is bypassed in most cases without ever setting it off. Stealth install is what your looking for.

Apologize for the long winded reply but I feel the need to bring this up to folks so they don't overlook security such as I(and many others)did.

Good Luck to you and this car. I'll be staying tuned for the progess.

i have definitely considered a car alarm, but have yet to look into it more. This might be a dumb question but since my hatch is a DX model, everything is manual--do they make car alarms for cars without power locks/windows etc? Im interested in learning more about what my options are as far as alarms go, thanks for all the help you've been givin me Matt93eg

made a nice trip to Harbor Freight the other day and got a buncha goodies. I seriously love that place, everything is dirt cheap! Even though the stuff isnt exactly the highest quality it gets the job done, i saw an air impact gun for $9.99! I could definitely see myself getting a little carried away in there i think i need to stay away haha.

As for updates and progress, i havent been doing too much because a few friends and I took a little 3 day road trip to norcal and i've been working a bunch too. I removed the door moldings yesterday and painted them black, they look 100% better:

And i'm looking for some fender moldings for both drivers and passengers side. So if anyone has some laying around i'd be down to buy them Also, im going to go check out some local salvage yards and see if there are any in there, but are they a bitch to take off since they are on the fender? Any info on that would be great.

Aaaand lastly i'd like that add that I am searching for a different wheel setup. I absolutely love the way my low offset wheels look but they are just kinda stressful (i know i know what your all thinking..."should've thought about that when you bought low offset wheels"). I originally ordered the 15x7's but at the very last moment changed the order to 15x8. I just want a skinnier wheel/tire setup so i can go a little bit lower and i also want to be able to have people in my car with me without stressing out on every turn, etc. Oh well, trial and error i guess. If your interested in my wheels here is a link to my FS/FT thread:

^^thanks!

I decided to get the hood work out of the way today. There was surface rust ALL OVER it, so i spent a good 2 and a half hours sanding all the rust off. It was a lot of work! Once i finally got everything down to bare metal and smoothed it, i gave it a few coats of primer. Overall, everything went smoothly and now i'm one step closer to paint!

Before:

Took a little break from sanding:

All ready for primer:

All done!

Looks pretty good but your ride height makes the wheels look funny. I like the wheels though. What offset may I ask?
