Pic request: ITR headunit upgrade options
Of course I don't have any pictures installed, but the higher end Nakamichi (CD400 / CD500) units have an almost exact amber match. I had one of the older models that had the 6 disk in dash changer and it was great. They are also really simple in appearance and blend in well with an otherwise stock interior. No crazy EQ's or dancing dolphins, just straight business
There's also a guy right now selling in the classifieds one of the newer Alpine units that has a close amber match as well. Good price too

That link is to this thread, not sure if you meant to do that
I've been looking at those although some look real clean and others don't install properly. There's no way to find out until you've already bought the sucker.
Keep the pics and suggestions coming!
Being a classic car now, a headunit with the splashy graphics on it and such just looks out-of-place in the ITR.
I've always thought that a headunit in the ITR should fit with the overall theme and purpose of the car. That is, one that looks classic, sounds good and integrates well with the interior.
I love those Naka. units that a few folks have done and that's probably the path I'd take if I ever replaced the headunit. However, since the car is not a daily for me, I rarely have the radio on when I drive it--thus is why I still have the OEM headunit in place (although I did replace the front speakers). I'd replace the rear ones too if I thought I could get a set of aftermarket speakers through the grill opening.

The nakamichi unit is really nice, I may pick it up. Although the touchscreen DVD alpine units are tempting if installed cleanly
I went with a basic Kenwood head unit, it lights up red. Most important thing for me was a aux port on the face for my iPod and Pandora on my phone. $60 bucks new on craigslist.

I have the pioneer F900BT, the preset red is pretty close to the itr red, you can do custom rgb to get it exact if you have some time. It is great since it has nav and I suck at directions.
98 Spec JDM ITR headunit with ipod/MP3 (two ports for an audio jack as well as ipod) adaptor cable. Those aren't scratches on the CD player, just glare.
The JVC I posted has variable colors...I think a total of 728 colors though there are 20 preset colors. It has both a USB and aux on the front of the head unit. You can control an iPod with the iPod's USB cable or use any flash drive or portable audio player that has a USB cable.

That's the current JVC unit with variable color display and black controls. The cheaper versions have less output and silver ***** and buttons. You can even have two different colors for the buttons and display.

I have the F700BT, looks to be the same but yours may have additional inputs or adjustments. Looks great installed and the ipod interface is great along with the bluetooth phone capabilities......when i get in the car i plug my iphone in and stick it in the glovebox. All contacts are synced with the head unit and can even pull up a dial pad to dial any number. I love it

before I went with my pioneer 3100, I went with a Base model RSX radio:

it was a single din unit, and was a small nice upgrade from the stock R cd player. It didnt skip when there was scratches on cd's, and sound quality was a bit better too. Also, it lit up a nice red to compliment the amber in our interiors
