Default fat upper radiator hose

So when I came home today i noticed a little smoke around my car. Not thinking much of it i decided to just check it out for good measure. I noticed that my upper radiator hose was really fat, just about doubled in size, while the lower hose was about regular. For a LONG time now, my temp gauge has been higher then "stock" i guess. The gauge sits at about 3/4 of the way to the hot mark, maybe about 3 marks below hot. Just because its been at that level for a long time now I am used to it. after seeing my radiator hose however im sorta worried about it. Has anyone ever encountered this issue? Would the radiator hose expanding so much be a sign that my motor is running too hot?

FYI: its a 1993 Del Sol with stock D15

thanks in advance
Carlos

I want to comment on this but if your gauge goes up to 3\4 and you continue to drive it and have no concern then helping you is a waste of time. your bearings are probally cooked and the motor probally has little to no life left. good luck with your fix and just for future notice these cars run at 200 degrees and start to cause damage to the motor over 230 degrees because the viscosity of the oil is to thin. if you ever notice your temp gauge going higher then normal get it fixed immeditally.

X2. You should go ahead and change your thermostat and that hose, and probably your oil while you are at it. Also pray that your engine got lucky and you don't have any head warpage and further overheating.

change the radiator cap also with the hose. The hose has deteriorated, but also your radiator cap is not releasing the pressure in the cooling system causing the hose to expand, and also causing the increase in temp. The thermostat wouldn't be a bad idea to replace at this time as well. May want to look into other things too since you have neglected it for so long now.
