7k rev limiter w/ b16
i got a PWO ECU, and a b16 wired up. i have been letting it idle in my garage, i revved it to 8 and it bounced off of 7k. can this be true or is it a guage discrepancy or what?> its in a 90 civic SI
yes, rev limiter. you may not have the oil pressure or one of the things needed for the ecu to allow vtec. let the car warm up, check your oil.
Redline is 8k, fuel cut off is 8200 in a normal, warmed-up engine.

if you have the stock guages in the car, the RPM guage is slower then it should be.
If you go out and buy an aftermarket RPM guage and hook it up the guage will go to 8000. I have a crx with a B16 and the Rpm go to 7600 but when I hooked up the aftermarket autometer it went to 8100.
Good luck.

isn't there an auto ecu that doesn't rev as high? maybe you got an auto instead of manual.
i am more thiking its becsue its cold, but i need someone else with a PWO ECU to confirm that a cold start map has a lower rev limit..
its a PWO. i was under the assumption that a PWO was an SIR ecu fomr a 88-91 civic/crx SIR
1. Tempature
2. RPM/Oil pressure
3. SPEED it wont kick in until 15mph
it gets your speed off your speedometer, so if your speeedometer doesnt work, neither does your VTEC, it is cable drven, the only thing sensing the speed is the gauge cluster.
Well first off I hope that no one is reving the motor to 7-8000 when the motor is cold because this will harm the motor because it is not at operating temp.

The SiR ECU is "PR3" and VTEC will not kick in at a standstill, 3 things effect it:
1. Tempature
2. RPM/Oil pressure
3. SPEED it wont kick in until 15mph

make sure you don't have the engine temp sensor and vtec oil pressure plugs switched. if you're getting a code 6 then the engine will keep the cold start rev limit of 7200.
i have a 91 civic si with a b16. first my tach is dame acurate. i have the PR3 ECU and when it's coold it rev to 7K and wormed up it rev to 8200. I have atlest two friends that have had that problem and it was becase thay had auto ECU after geting them rechip the problem was fixed. Try this site http://jdmhondaparts.com/frameset-ecu.htm
