B swapped 1991 ED First Long Trip Prep!
Alright so, I'm just looking for suggestions on things I should look over or check on before I drive from Iowa to Orlando FL (about a 21 hour drive). The furthest I've driven it so far is about 4 hours, it's not really doing anything bad but I'm new to the Honda world, are there typical things to be aware of? I've listed car info below, the only weird things I've noticed are idling kind of rough, it revs up and down slightly while idleing, occasionally it seems like it loses power (loose ground), like all the lights go dim, headlights go dim, everything electrical, but then randomly everything comes back on?
That's about it though, thanks! I've got about 4 weeks to prep the little guy ha ha! I might make a thread to document the trip, it should be interesting with no stereo...

id do the usual, like change the oil/filter, clean air filter, check all belts/hoses, and fix the current problems. also take a set of basic tools and duct tape/elect tape/jb-quick, and some coolant

gl I am might be goin cross country in my 88 hatch I am replacing any old parts or questionable parts and bring spares I would rather spend more now then having to pay someone else or tow etc. Also bring basic tools, tire plugs, etc gl
Pretty much all the above. I like to have a decent set of tools in both my crx and my ek coupe. Also I opt to go with a regular style Jack compared to the stock ones.
Ice chest in the passenger seat (if your driving solo).

Id say say a good socket/tool set, spare tire, and good jack for starters. A gallon of gas station drinking water couldn't hurt either. But yeah, pretty much all of the above and you should be fine! A good collection of CDs or a freshly compiled Ipod would be great, or at the very least make sure your radio antenea (sp?) is working great! Good luck on your trip!
Two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.

Ha ha ha... some good stuff in there! Thanks, yeah I was just curious if anyone had run into anything, but good to know everything should be pretty dependable. I'll have a shop run over it and let me know what they recommend. I'll do the work myself but nice to have a trained set of eyes on it. Any ideas on the current rough idle issue? Thanks a TON dudes, I'll get a thread up of the trip when i leave, a testiment to dependable Honda hatchies!
the rough idle is most likely a vacuum leak you have somewhere, check all your vacuum hoses for cracks and wear. If there is a leak it will cause it to idle rough, or up and down. Also check the hole on your intake tube to make sure thats plugged with the line that comes out of your valve cover.
this is a good thread! i am planning a trip from portland, OR to reno then from reno phoenix then back to portland in august. not to thread jack, but is there anything to be concerned about making a lot trip on a recently rebuilt engine and trans? obviously it'll be broken in first... lol
Ahhhh, I'll try that. I had it taped up but maybe it's not tight enough. I just have a small air filter on the valve cover. Maybe plug it with cork or something?
Ha ha, it's not thread jacking if it's relevant and informational questions, best of luck to ya and let me know if you come up with anything!
I like to bring a spare distributor, just because I've had ignitors and coils quit on me just driving to work. Can't imagine getting stuck in the middle of nowhere with a dead distributor..
