anyone replaced rod bearings withought polish crank
has anyone just swap them out? i read everyone just saying change motor but havent herd anyone just changing them...if so is it still driving, knocking?i just want to drive the car but im getting rid of it and the bearings didnt look so bad and crack dont feel like it got messed up plus after knocking only drove it for like 5 mins
i have always rebuild engine without having the crank checked or balanced, then again those engine i rebuilt were still running and had no knocking.
for the engines that did knock, i usually scrap them for metal.
might i ask, what kind of engine?

One thing I have learned and have been taught is never to skimp in certain areas of the car, or hell with anything. The last thing you want to do is short cut around the crank. Patience is the key, i know it would save u money to just replace the bearings without polishing and balancing the crank but you want to put reliability over "Drive Now Status".
All it took was one time. I had just put together my H22, high compression set up and yea, I noticed that that little black Burr on the crank journal didn't "Feel" imperfect or as if it had scored the actual crank but I should have given it the attention it deserved. Replaced bearings, no crank service, 1000K down the road I spin a bearing on that same journal and wind up having to spend what I'd have spent getting the crank serviced x 2 after it grenaded.
If you're gonna be driving it, or building it, don't replace em without getting the crank serviced. If you're just trying to get the car to someone else...I'd still do it just on the strength of being a proper businessman and selling you my product. But if not..at least tell them you didn't.
Service the crank.
And now you know....cuz knowledge is power. *G-iiiiiiiiiii Jooooooooooooe!*

yeah i understand its that it would be cheaper for me to get the block then fixing the crank i have a b16a im in dominican republic and jdm **** is here everywhere if i stay with it i will be getting a new block but i dont plan too and i did tell the guy thats trying to buy it what the problem is but he says he just needs it to run for a couple of days...i just wanted to know how long it would last
if you know how to inspect thte journals properly then no you do not need to polish but to be safe pay the machine shop 10bux to mic it out for you.
My gsr block had no knocks or play in any journal I replaced the bearings with ACL race. Runs super.

I have a question from reading this thread.
If I have a d-series engine does have a knock, are you guys saying that it isn't worth repairing?

yeah for anyone trying to do the same mistake I did dont do it I tried it and the noice came back so now im just gonna get a diff block
if you can get a used crank and bearings and do the work yourself then it might be cheaper. otherwise i'd just get another bottom end altogether.
