Hey guys, just bought a 96 GSR, has been sitting for awhile i was told, drove it pretty good, gave it a good run :-) and it started loosing power and fast idleing ... spat a chek engine light, was the VSS, the plug was corroded so i will change that, but i dont see any other codes.. was wondering if anyone had any ideas, you can feel the power surge on the highway, when the vtec kicks in its not pullin hard at all just makin RPM.. and when i get back home the idle is up between 1500-2000?

So you jumped the ecu and the code for the Vss came up? High idle can be caused by bad IACV or vacuum leaks. And if this is your first GSR how do you know how Vtec would be like? I think your just too use to V8's. LOL

 

it was working great until about an hour after i started driving it ... thats how i know what it should pull like, i grew up with turbo eclipses and whatnot ,

was weird on the way home last night, i booted it past someone and then there was nothing for power like it had nothing past half throttle ? if i just lightly pressed the gas it was go but nothing at all after like an inch of throttle? it acted up like that for a few minutes and after kickin the gas a few times it seemed to fix its self?
TPS? IACV? hrm...

 

Try cleaning out the filter and replacing the o-ring for the vtec system. I was having the exact same issue and two days ago took off the vtec sylenoid and cleaned the screen and replaced the o-ring and vtec was kicking again strong. Just remember to change your oil at the same time cause if your filter was clogged it'll just clog up again if you don't change out dirty oil.
