Tune up
how many miles on the car? whats the year of this car? you could need a timing belt...valve lash check and adjustment.....do you have oil leaks?.....have you replaced coolant and done the coolant system service? new thermostat and fan switch?.....i assume the timing is now correct again with the new distributor, but just to be sure-did you check it? or just set the distributor off how it sounded when it was running? we need the miles on the car and (at least i do) the year of the car. my system goes off the year for the maintenance tables depending on the miles. these are just the defined regular scheduled services and also there is a tune up and performance check but i need the year to save me from looking at every late model accord to find the engine you have
keep up with the oil leaks. makes every other job under the hood that much cleaner and easier.
excuse me if i over simplify.. but i like to check anything full of fluid and anything made out of rubber. if fluid doesn't look new, replace it with fresh stuff. if rubber parts are split, missing, cracked, leaking, swollen, ect. consider their importance/function and replace if needed.
otherwise just follow the owner's manual/service manual.

the list is long with this many miles and age. timing belt, water pump, balancer belt, belt tensioners, trans fluid, oil and filter, i'd also replace the brake fluid on this, thermostat and fan switch, replace all the coolant lines if they havent been or look old..including the heater hoses. inspect and replace if necessary the radiator hoses. replace the coolant and radiator cap, replace all leaking oil seals, replace the air filter and pcv valve, check and adjust if necessary the valve lash, inspect and replace any belts on the alt, p/s and a/c if needed, inspect all bushings and replace any cracked or broken ones, inspect the motor and trans mounts...replace if necessary, inspect the brakes and rotors too. also inspect the calipers and wheel cylinders, do a compression test also and post he specs if youre not sure if they are okay, inspect the axles (theyve most likely been replaced already), inspect for leaking struts/shocks, has the fuel filter been replaced? clean the throttle body too (if its fuel injected-i think carbs are on some of these cars...not sure off memory though), the fuel injectors should be flushed by a shop also. they have an adapter that allows the car to run off a chemical in a can and it cleans your injectors. that crap for your gas tank i think is just that-crap. i dont recommend it. this should get you started. let us know if you have done any of this recently...or when you did this stuff if you did it already

well my list is mostly preventive maintenance. the most important thing is the timing belt. replace it so you know its good but also the timing may be correct but the belt may be old and it could break and cause you lots of money. you would probably just junk the car because the cost would be more than the car is worth. most people would do that anyhow. car guys would probably rebuild it or consider rebuilding it LOL. if the belt breaks you will be doing head work, probably around 250-300 bucks alone, 75 for head bolts, 50 head gasket, 100 for timing belt and balancer belt (50 if you just have a timing belt-i havent done a timing belt on a ca this old in a long time, so i forgot if there is a balancer belt and i'm too lazy to look it up), 25 per tensioner (timing belt and balancer), 25 valve cover gasket, 25 for new oil and filter. then pistons may be damaged so who knows how much you'll spend there because you should re-hone at least with the new pistons, and you'll want to replace seals and water pump also while youre in there....so replace the timing belt and all the seals in there and the water pupm. consider also replacing the oil pump just because of the high miles. do the stuff in here now so you dont break the timing belt and cause more damage which costs you money. if you dont mind doing work many times over, just do the timing belt and tensioner plus the balancer belt and tensioner if you have them. these are the most important
