92 accord won't start
I hope someone can help, here's a little history. I'm working on a 92 Accord 2.2 Injected SOHC that someone else took a crack at first. They replaced the Timing belt and managed to bend Valves in the process. I've replaced the Valves and double checked the Cam Timing. Unless the book is wrong it should be correct. I have fuel and spark and the engine turns over but it just won't start. In desperation I have advanced and retarded the plug wires in the cap. Advanced the motor will pre ignite retarded you get putting from the exhaust. I'm not sure where to go next. The ECM does not have LED's so I can't look for codes. I have not been able to find out how to get codes, maybe that would help if anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it very much.
92 accord should have a check engine light on the instrument cluster. (the dash gauges). there is a diagnostic port that is usually hanging under the glove box (its a blue 2-pin connector). put a jumper wire in there to connect the 2 terminals together and watch the flashes on the check engine light. let us know what the codes are. you have to have the key in the run position too by the way
Yes the pistons were fine. The valves barely made contact. I believe the valves were bent when the belt was installed. I think the belt was replaced because of this existing problem. I'll locate the data port and check codes and post back here this evening. Thanks for the replys!
OK, I found the plug to read codes and jumpered it. First I jumpered it with the key off and then turned the key on. The check engine light came on and just stayed on. I then removed the jumper and the light went out. I replaced the jumper with the kley already on and the same thing. If you turn the key on with no jumper the check engine light comes on for 5 seconds or so and then goes off. Could this be the source of my problems? To answer the last response, after I replaced the valves I checked the compression and had 150 PSI+ in all cylinders. More than enough to fire it up.
sounds like you dont have any CEL codes stored or causing issues. try starting it with starter fluid spray. if it fires its a fuel issue. if it dont its a spark issue. hope your timing is correct or you will get backfires if its a fuel issue

OK tried the startin fluid and nothing. Put in a fresh set of plugs since the others were wet. Still nothing. I had a friend crank while I watched a plug laying on the valve cover. The spark is blue but a very fine line and becomes intermittent after a couple of turns of the engine, so I believe now that I have a spark issue. I'm going to pick up a rebuilt distributor tomorrow since these are known to have issues. I'll post back after I install and hopefully start the engine.
Distributor didn't do it either. Finally changed out the coil and it started right up. First time I've had spark that wouldn't start the motor. I can see that it is much more intense now. Thanks for the help.
