3 gear grindin
Try changing your transmission fluid first, see how the transmission responds then. If at that point you continue to have problems, I'd look into a transmission rebuild on the synchros, bearings, oil seals, etc..., or purchasing a used one with low mileage.
dont just check it.. change it.
then come back.. The $50 it takes to change it is TONS less than the $300-up it will cost to do the Synchros.

Just go down to honda and buy 2 qts of mtf and do it yourself. Very easy process. Here's a How-to if you've never did it before.

The 2nd->3rd grind is common on our transmissions. It's not a big deal in most cases though. Mine does it, but only when I'm shifting very quickly and at right around redline. I get just a little crunch and it doesn't keep it from going into gear or anything. It doesn't even come close to affecting normal driving and doesn't really hurt racing either. No need to replace the syncros or tranny for that.
Are your symptoms different from mine? Sometimes grinds can be because of problems with the clutch engauging/disengauging, but it's not exactly the first thing people think of. I had a 1st->2nd grind that was similar to a syncro grind, but it was caused by a slight problem in my clutch'es hydrolics.

What I'm concerned with, is how does he know this? The only way for you to tell what the fluid looks like is to remove the drain bolt on the bottom of the transmission, a la loss of a lot of fluid. One can't just look at the transmission and say it's ok. Go down, buy you the MTF you'll need, go visit the c-speed link, and change the oil yourself. It's easier than changing motor oil, IMHO, just make sure you're on level ground when filling the transmission back up.
$10-$15 by you doing it vs. $50 to have mechanic do it equals a whole lot of money saved and peace of mind that you did it right.
