I bought an Integra this week and am pretty new to the scene, though I have been a lurker for years on this site and in the honda scene in general. The right circumstances finally came together and here I am.

I bought a car with some nice dr16's, chrome lip with powder coated yellow spokes and mugen center caps. They are nice and I almost want to keep them but where I live, the extra attention from police and thieves isn't worth it. I want to go steelies/hubcaps to be lower profile and also because I am a fan of leaving things the way Honda intended on the exterior.

I will be sad to see the grip of my nice summer tires spread out over my wide ish 16 inch wheels. Has anyone ever used a 14 inch steely that was wider than stock? A 14 x 6 or 14 x 7 covered with 94-97 Acura Integra (my car) hub caps?

Or maybe if I spent a little more money on a nicer 14 x 5 (stock steely I believe) would I enjoy elevated levels of grip with that?

What really matters to grip is not the width of the wheel, or the width of the tire. What really matters to grip is the make/model of the tire, as reflected in its design (including its tread pattern, compound, construction, etc). Mount a supersticky Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec in 195/60-14 on the stock 14x5.5 rims (yes, they're 14x5.5 not 14x5) and it will outgrip any other 14" street tire on any width wheel.

That being said, there are so many Integras out there with stock 15" alloys that they won't attract attention - AND you can get used sets without spending a lot of money. Rather than get 14" steelies, I'd recommend getting a set of used 15x6 GS-R wheels ("fat fives", "blades", etc). Then slap some sticky 195/55-15 or 205/50-15 summer tires on them. (The Star Spec comes in both 15" sizes.)

 

Just get a set of blades. There clean, not too flashy and there OEM.
