Default Went to the track for the first time, and I need help

I took my RSX out last night, and I'm very indifferent towards my results (seeing how this was my first outing).

My first run was my best, but I made a lot of mistakes. I'm still not entirely sure how to launch, as I was getting excessive wheel spin. Also, I didn't realize my tire pressure was 35 psi (!!). I managed a 2.419 60', and ended with a 15.380 @ 91.00 mph. I tried launching at ~4500 rpm, and I had a full interior, didn't take a thing out (even had some misc crap like roller blades and a baseball bag in the trunk). My subsequent runs went downhill, mainly bc I think I was just over anxious, so we won't discuss those. But what I want to know is, what launching techniques has everyone been using, and what psi are you guys running? My mods are:

Injen sri
Skunk2 catback
Eibach sportlines
17" Rota subzeros
225/45/17 S-03's

There were some Civic guys (2 hybrids, 1 bolt-on 6th gen Si) there that were reeaallly helpful, and if you guys read this, thanks a bunch! But I could use as much info/advice as I can get before I go back again... which will probably be tomorrow night.

Believe it or not, but removing that misc crap will help out greatly, have to think, that's probably an extra 50lbs (depending whats in your bball bag). Remove the front/rear seats and I guarantee you'll break 14's. Also I'd lower tire pressure to around 26ish, launch around 4500 (like you were), try and maintain RPM's around the 6500-7k range while spinning, you should hook up well into VTEC and you'll be set, just make sure the rest of your shifts are fluent.

launching at around 3000-3500 is perfect for the stock tires, but since you have 17's with better tires 4500 should be good. But the trick to get really good times is learning for to feather your clutch. experiment letting out the clutch at different speeds. you cant let it out too fast or you get alot of wheel spin, or too slow cause you wont go anywhere. you gotta find a perfect medium to get good launches. to break into the 14's it has everything to do with the launch.

I tried lowering my tire pressure on my last 3 runs, and my 60' times actually increased (except my last one, which was ~ 2.3...). I think my main problem was I was just thinking too much, and getting nervous. Do you suggest feathering the clutch, or just dropping it? On my second run, I spun, bogged, and hit the fuel cutoff at the end, and I still mustered a low 15.5. I guess now that the initial jitters are out, I can focus on just going out and having fun...

put the stock wheels back on...and get good tires for the drag strip....17' s rob power ...even if there light....you'd get more power to the ground with stock wheels and sticky rubber

Well bro if your still riding on stock tires(michellen's) lower the psi to arond 21-22. Trust me it is low but will grab better. Next gut your car for lighter weight. Trust me every pound and ounce counts.

As for launching the car here are a few tip to try out.
As you approach the line do not go throw the burn out box, it's not worth it to wet you tires. You will only spin off the line resultiing in a really bad time.

Instead pass the burn out box and get onto the dry surface and just press the clutch in and rev to around 5ooo rpm and pop the clutch to warm your tires up. During this time when you are warming up your tires this is when you figure out where to launch. If the tires are grabbing when you press the clutch in and pop it at 5ooo rpm's then try that. If they are spinning to much try launching at around 46oo-47oo. The ideal launch for me is at 46oo rpm's and my tires usually just grab and go, but this is with my 17 inch JDM's, so the smaller wheel might spin so try launching at 44oo rpm's.

As for the interior being removes I would have to recomend this. Lighter weight can only help you. Remove the spare tire/sub woofer, Foam, Carpet from the back and the back seats. Also remove the passenger seat.

The rear seats and trunk removal should be no problem, if you need help just let me know and I will take pictures on how to remove it. As for the passenger seat this requires a bit more work, not much but it will keep you occupied for a few minutes.

First you have to unbolt the 4 screws( 2 in front and 2 in back). After removing these bolts you should now be able to move the chair, but do not take it out yet or you will rip some very important wires.
First lift the front of the seat up and look under the seat. You will see a bunch if wires along with your amp. Disconnect the amp from the seat.( 4 plastic ribits) then after you remove the amp you will see 3 wires that connect to the side airbag. Disconnect these three wires and you will be set. Remove the seat and you are set to go. After you remove the passenger seat you will get a "SRS" light inside your cluster. This is from the airbag being disconnected. Even after you reinstall your seat this will still be there. Just disconnect your battery and reconnect and it will be gone.

If you need help just let me know and I will help you step by step.
Good Luck bro.
