How do I know if it is a K20A2 0r K20A3?
Hi, my brother in law is willing to trade me his 05 Si Hatch for my 91 CRX Si with an H22A in it. I'm would like to know if his car has a K20A2 or A3. The hatch has a red valve cover, red emblems everywhere (even on the key) but I can't find where to look on the engine and determine which one it has.
Can anyone tell me where to look (picture would be great) without having to take the valve cover and check the inside of the head? Is there anything in the VIN number that would tell me if it is a type R engine or something?
Thanks
Israel

All D, B and H engines I know, have the block stamped towards the front of the car, on the transmission side. Since the K series turn "the right way" I'm wondering if the stamp is on the inside towards the firewall on the transmission side or where. The K20 in the 05 civic hatch is a pretty tight fit. Can you guys guide me on where the stamp of the K20xx is?
Thanks

Actually, if you look directly under the throttle body, that is where the block stamp is. You should be able to see it... Basically like how you mentioned how all the other Honda motors are stamped, it's the same just on the right side instead of left.

like josh stated above, the stamp is still in the front. if it is a bone stock 05 hatch with no mods then more than likely its the A3. When i sell mine and take it back to stock the lucky buyer gets a stock ep with a K24A4
where is the redline on the tach at? most people when they swap get the type r gauge cluster which has an 8K redline instead of the weak a3 7K redline
oh wait, I just got one!!! it's kinda cool foolin' ppl seeing me going past the 7k redline and freak out, lol...
its an A3 with a type r valve cover A2's only come in the Acura RSX Type s 02-04 the stamp is located in between the manifold and just above the starter and unless they swapped the tranny you should only still have 5 gears
