Default ...I don't know what engine is in my car!

I have a 1999 Civic Coupe EX.

I looked on this one site and it told me this.

D16Y8
VTEC
Also available in New Zealand under the code D16Y6
Found in
1999-2000 Honda Civic SR 1.6 Vtec (UK)
1996-1999 Honda Civic EX Sedan
1996-1999 Honda Civic EX Coupe
1996-2000 Honda Civic EX (US)
1996-2000 Honda Civic SI (Canada Only)
1997-2000 Acura 1.6EL (Canada Only)
1996-1997 Honda del Sol Si
1997-2000 Rover 416 Auto

So it says that I have a VTEC, but my engine doesn't say VTEC on it.
And it doesn't say what engine it is anyways.

So I honestly have no idea what it is.

Help me please?!

I popped the hood, I don't know what to look for though.
I couldn't find numbers anywhere.

Except for a sticker on the top, but I googled that and nothing came up.

this is what the stamp looks like, obviously this pic is missing the tranny but that gives you an idea of where to look

Alright, so I looked but I think it's too dark to see anything.
I found this in my registration though.

1.6L L4 PFI 16V
Does that tell anything?

yeah single overhead cam (SOHC) VTEC. I recommend always using 91 octane when you have a VTEC motor.

Honda, on the other hand, does not. Using anything more is just throwing your money away.

Regular is just fine in a D16Y8. You can check in your owner's manual for more information, or I can type it up here if needed.

how many people who run 87 octane or similar low grade gas have taken off your TB's and looked at all the gunk on the backside of it and the IM? i know mine is sparking fresh because i run 93 (b16) in my car, and any other car i drive...unless its a rental. you spend an extra .20/gal now, but your engine thanks you.

^^ All engines are going to have gunk after years of use. My EJ6 is 13 years old and I run 87 all the time. I don't drive too hard on the street but even when I autocross, it's 87. I've yet to have a single engine issue of any sort in my four years of owning the car. Before this car I had a Ford Taurus with over 240k, always ran 87. Never any engine problems. Do the required maintenance to make your car last, don't waste money on premium gas unless it needs it.

What does "unleaded fuel only" have to do with octane rating?

It's an octane rating, not a purity rating. There is no reason to run 91+ when the car specifies regular. Why some people think their cars run better and the fuel burns cleaner with a higher octane fuel is beyond me. Application depending, higher octane fuel can actually not fully burn due to it looking for a higher compression, temp etc than what fairly stock (internally) D, B, H, whatever series engines can offer.

But doesn't Japan and some other countires us higher octane fuel, which is why the compression ratio is higher on most JDM engines?
