Default Possibly going to be new to the Honda world

Hello,

My name is Greg. Just some basic info. I am stationed at Ft. Bliss in Texas. I currently own a 1994 Dodge Shadow and a 2008 Ford Focus. I have found a decently good deal on a 1999 Civic Si.

Here's a pic:

It has 130K miles. It is BONE STOCK. Not even a cold air intake on it. The only "mod" that it has is new struts and lowering springs. Those need to be replaced anyways. There are only a few problems with the car. It might need a new front bumper, the one on it is a little chewed up, the suspension needs to be fixed as stated earlier, the door has a bend in it where someone opened it and hit something, the windshield has a huge chip in it, its fresh but will get worse with the hard suspension, and the tranny needs to be rebuilt, third gear grinds when shifting over 5.5K. I think thats not to bad.

The dealer originally wanted 8995, but I got them down to 7500 right now. Not to sure if I should bother tho. It is a one-owner, female, car. From the two test drives I have taken it is a very solid and sound car. Im just torn between getting it or not, because I already make payments on one car and I don't really make that much money. And I would rather keep the Focus because it still has the factory warranty.

So if I dont get this '99, the plan is to pay the Focus off and get an '07 or newer Si.

Just wondering what ya'lls take on this situation would be.

Sounds like it's been beat, i wouldnt pay any wear close to 7500, it's not worth it.
Tranny needs to be rebuilt, door has bend and bumper needs paint, dealer is on crack, its a si but come on.

Id walk away not worth close to $7500

Thank you. Thats what I thought. I havent signed anything so Ima tell him no thanks.

I figured ya'll would know wether or not I should spend my money and obviously that would be a no-go for this.

Thank-you cause I was seriously debating getting it too.

It's still your call, you get a new tranny for a few hundread and a swap in with a couple buddys in a few hours. If the price were less and reflected the tranny, door/bumper i would defenetly consider it, but not for that price.

Yea I dont think that they are going to be going much lower. They think its some kind of uber rare car. Plus i'd rather wait to get the K20Z3 instead.

Uber rare no, kinda rare in mint shape yes.

Si's like that one pop up all the time, people just think because it says SI on the back they charge high blue book for a car in **** shape.
A guy on here just got a mint si with like 40k miles for 6500, you can do a lot better then that one.

I got my sol for 6000, 8000 after paying monthly for it, and that was in perfect condition, I mean no visible rust, no dents, interior was clean and fresh, and the engine was babied and runs like butter toast. (thats a good thing). Usually del sols go for 3000, but those are usually **** boxes. If anything (especially how I feel after this del sol) don't pay more then 4k for any used honda unless its a s2000 or newer then 2001 (including 2001).

^Yeah thats what I mean. This is to much money.

BTW I think you meant newer than 2001 not older.

I think its better to wait and get the 07 anyways.

Well I do have the choice to pretty much get what I want(great thing about the military is that the money is dead steady and its always going to be there), but I just want to really pay this car off before I finance another.

you could prolly get a K-swapped EX with Si parts on it for close to that much and it'll be a hell of a lot faster.

Not sure what you do in the Army, or how long you enlisted for, but something to keep in the back of your mind. Unless you are in a critical MOS, your chances of being able to re-enlist are about 15%. And the fact that they just passed a bill stopping any and all future pay raises for the military effective Jan 2011.

Just my .02, from somebody who has been there, done that, got the t-shirt...LOL

I knew you were going to say that...LOL

Dont get caught up in the hype, that's way too much for an SI in that bad of shape.

Dont take on another payment, get outta one before you get another.

Not that you younger guys have much to pay for, with your fancy barracks rooms. I know, I used to be one of you, a long long time ago...LOL

Haha. The money situation is why I want to wait. Plus I think the K20 is cooler.

Yes the barracks are sweet. I have my own seperate room, with a full kitchen and a full bath. We are kinda spoiled now.

We started getting those at FT Campbell in 2002, but I was already an NCO by then, so I was not authorized to live in the barracks. You guys do have it rough though, I remember living in 4-5 man rooms, a community latrine and showers, no cooking in the barracks. But that was the army, I can go back to the open squad bays during the 8 yrs I spent in the USMC from 1992-2000...LOL

Save up and get the newer civic SI.
