Default avon tech r's Vs. other tires for boosted street tire.

i am looking for something that will give me traction on the street in a boosted gsr eg. i bought two avon tech r's street slicks in 205/50/15 got them for a deal, $70 for two but i am not sure if i should mount these or sell them if there is more street grippy tires that i should be looking at. my homie with the same setup was having traction problems with his avons. i was thinking bout some azenis or some nitto 555r's. input?
peace!

R compound tires, including the Avon Tech R and Tech R-A and the Nitto 555R, are generally not good for street use. Aside from the high cost and rapid treadwear, the big problem is that they are designed to reach maximum grip when hot, after a fast lap around a racetrack, and they never reach that temperature on the street. You're much better off with today's best "extreme performance" street tires. In 205/50-15 for an Integra, these include the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, Yokohama Advan Neova AD08, Kumho Ecsta XS, Toyo Proxes R1R, and Falken Azenis RT-615K. If your car is a '92-95 Civic, you're probably better off getting 195/50-15, which you can get in the RE-11, Star Spec, and R1R. These are the stickiest street tires you can buy.

For most brands besides Toyo and Falken: http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp

For Falken (and to comparison price the other brands): http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/home.do

And, of course, there is always your trusted local mechanic who should be able to order pretty much anything if you ask.

I think the Avon is a poor choice for street use.

Also note that those are from the "bricks and mortar" Discount Tire stores, not their Discount Tire Direct internet mail-order site.
