well, the spoon plug has a longer magnetic rod than the autozone one. but when you compare a 40 dollar plug to a 3 dollar plug, i don't think you'll notice a 37 dollar difference.

i couldn't find a magnetic drain plug from a general autoparts store so, i bought the spoon plug. it works great. especially during the break in procedure of a newly built engine.

There was a post in the ITR forum a while back about it. One guy posted pics of metal shavings on his drain plug picked up.

Considering that Honda puts a magnetic drain plug on the AUTOMATIC transmission stock, it seems like a good idea. I got one from advance auto.

Bingo. I was thinking- why not just magnetize it like you do tools? If you have a magnet, it's free. May not be as strong but something is better than nothing.
