Try older ones, 1993+, 3S-GTE equipped, stiffer suspension, LSD...

the new sequential 6 speed is supposed to be VERY nice, a lot like the SMG on the bimmer, rev matched down shifts just a tap away.
hope they were turbo'd
my friend has 93 mr2 turbo and he beats me at a line but i beat him at highend when my itr's screaming~ he just can keep up with me but not pass me
he's boosting about 1 bar

The latest MR-2 handles pretty good. I drove my friends MR-2 Spyder with Teins susp., 16 in. Volk LE's, and hi-perf. Kumho tires and it wasn't bad at all. The weight transfer is non-existent due to the RR(mid/rear-engine, rear drive) so late-braking and cornering was really fun. The car is very underpowered which turns alot of folks off! The engine is very hard to work on due to the way it's situated in the car though
The car makes do with 140hp because it is so light. Most tests I have seen put the car in the sub-7second 0-60 range, which is way quicker than a Miata. I would bet that in the hands of a skilled driver, the Yota would turn in quicker times.
The new Sequential 'box will not allow you to smoke the tires, so the sequential is quite a bit slower than the conventional manual.
Even though I am not a Toyota fan at all, I would love to have the MR Spyder with the Celica GT-S drivetrain. That would make an awesome track car.

itr1244, i am certain that there is some problem with your friend's 93 mr2. Maybe it is not properly tuned. my buddy have a 91 mr2 turbo and he said mr2 needs frequent tune ups. If he is REALLY boosting at 1 bar, he would probably smoke you at a line. They run high 13's in 1/4 mile. i raced my buddy's mr2 boosting at 1 bar with my type r (i/e/h) and he beat me real bad
. You should ask your friend to check on his car, i am 100% certain that there is a problem somewhere with his car.

actually he's car is 91 too sorry about that and he's got 93 tranny with lsd
he actually smokes me at a line but i can catch him up~ but now i hear there's some problem on his boosting he's boosting 1 bar on his boost controllor but it actually hits like .8-.9 bars
he ran a 1/4 14.6.
i guess something's wrong with his car

there was just an article in car abd driver i think the name was.... but summary was basically the sequential shift is cool in a affordable car liek the mr2, but the shifts were very slow...but still cool for a cra that is under 30k.
