My 96 accord wion't start but has had numerous issues like it wouldnt shift automatically but would shift fine slap sticking it. so we replaced the tranny it's a v6- with D4 , THEN IT WOULD START BUT SOON as we got decent RPM the tach was skipping badly and after replacing the coil, ignition module, temp sensor aNd tdc , cylinder postion sensors , the rotor plugs and so on it won't start at all now appears no spark from dist cap. I found the stupid main relay & wondered if that coukd be it since s o many issues come from it.? Also that fule accumulator makes the loud noise when trying to start.

Firstly, That made no sense.....AT ALL.

Make it simple.

Issues are:
1. Tachometer Skipping (Bouncing, Gaining/Losing Power)
2. Replaced Distributor Parts (Coil, Cap, Rotor)
3. Transmission Issues (Not sure what this has to do with car not starting....)
4. Fuel Pump?? Again you make no sense.

Solutions,

-please learn to communicate clearly.

next, Ignition Switch...seems likely. (Bouncing Tach, Power Loss, Car Turns Over But Does Not Start) It's not in the distributor. It's in the steering column.

Quick Check: Turn Key....Not all the way.
1st. Turn to "ON" Position.
2nd. Turn Half Way Between On & Start *DO NOT LET GO OF THE KEY*
3rd. If the car stays running, your ignition switch needs to be replaced
4th. You can drive your car holding the key half cranked.
5th. If this is the case, go to Honda. Get the part.

**Tip** When you install this part, it comes apart. (Makes it easier)

There's also a Recall on the part. Call Honda if Ignition Switch is the case.

Actually I typed it too fast and at the same time was reading or adding in stuff from other relative posts.

We replaced the tranny due to it not shifting which is relative due to other posts that state ,I believed from the Accord moderator that the main relay had in some models caused shifting issues and the d4 light to blink abnormally.

The D4 light was seen to blink on mine , yet I'm believing it to be normal in this case. It blinked when turning the key. We also went to the Honda dealer and got new keys which worked much better, than the worn out one.
While there I got a new Honda fuel filter & installed it.

I read the moderators troubleshooting steps for the main relay, and starting issues and ran through those. I also checked the green wire on the new ignition module with the key on & it has the same power as does the battery, that we cleaned the terminals on & gave it a complete charge.

We have a very weak spark from the distributor & is a white not blue color, that cannot be measured with a DVM. POWER FROM THE NEW COIL is at least 12 volts.

I have replaced all but the distributor itself the ign. module, cap & rotor, coil also the plugs , checked all fuses and the ecu plugs/connectors & grounds shown in the moderators steps. I found a distributor on ebay motors for 99.35 shipped with 48k on it, so I ordered it. I did not run the DVM tests on the ECU, but I'm getting the proper sequence of check engine light coming on then going off with the fuel pump 2 seconds noise/running & the 1 click just after from the main relay which we tried a new one & it had zero effect.

The TDC & CYLINDER POSITION SENSOR on a 2.7 V6 are under the timing belt sprocket upper forward and the OBD2 reaader (INNOVA) gave me those codes for those sensors. Right now & maybe since it won't start there are zero codes. WE did replace The TDC & CYLINDER POSITION SENSORS.

I also found a bad temp sensor & replaced it.

The only reason I posted was after doing most of the above & still not getting it to start. This 96 Accord is being fixed up for my son & I of course appreciate all the help and suggestions. It has actually gotten worse except the tach. seems to function great now.

It did start but after driving it and after it warming up it gradually got worse , so it had similar issues to other posts, except now it doesn't start at all. It cranks very well now that we replaced so much. It just doesn't want to get combustion.
