Car Painting: DIY vs Maaco vs Quality Professional Job?
If I were to learn how to paint a car, using a book or something, and had access to painting facilities, could I do a better job on my own car than Maaco would? Could I do as good or better of a job then a well-respected and high-priced paint or body shop? Or is it more an art than a science? And considering my time and materials costs and everything, would I save enough money to make it worthwhile?
If the answer is yes, you can do it nicely yourself, can someone please recommend some books or ways to learn how?
Thanks,
Ben

i once heard "a paint job is only as good as its prep work"
but then again, ive never painted a car..so i wouldnt know.. but i know what a good color sand and buff job does for a coat of paint..so make sure you do that **** afterwards..

one reason I would paint my own car is so I can make sure its done to my liking. I would take my time.

This is basically true. Meaning that if you have dents that need fixing where they use body filler, and don't do it correctly...The paint will only bring out those flaws. Maaco with the addition of their clear coat for an additional $150.00 can't really be beat. If you don't have a few grand to shell out and daily drive your car, Maaco is the way to go. Just do some mild research before you commit.
