D series transmissions?
Hi guys I got a crx a couple months ago, and I know alot about D and B series engines, but I know nothing of transmissions, why I ask this is because I hate being on the highway and only doing 120km/h at 4000rpm, is there any alternatives to my transmission with wider gear spacing?, could I use the 6 speed from the wagovan?
sounds like you have either a 4 speed which sucks or you have the SI tranny which is good if you dont drive on the highway, your best bet would be to get a DX tranny and use the 5th gear in it for the si tranny. or just swap it and use a DX tranny but stay away frin the HF one i have it and there is no power to be had
There really isn't a huge difference in the gearing from the DX to the Si trans that I've noticed. I've had both and it really hasn't made a big difference OTHER THAN freeway driving. That's really it.
I have a 91 stock crx si with low mileage, and its probably not worth swapping transmissions probably better off with a B series swap after all
Have u tried just using a higher gear? It'll drop the revs and unless ur trying to pass someone u could just rock out like that.
the RT AWD "6 spd" is not really a 6spd and its not even compatible. its a normal 1-5 with an extra low gear. so forget about it.
you can do a lot of things to change your gearing with a D series tranny. HF's have different gearing and are longer so youll have lower cruising RPMs. swapping 5th gear alone is possible.
DX trannies also come with lower final drives, 3.88 vs 4.25. you can just swap out the complete tranny instead of the FD alone because the gears are the same anyway.
you have some gear interchangeability with the later model civics too.
lots of options. looking to the RT-AWD tranny is not one of them.
but really, just get used to it and enjoy the rest of the gearing that helps make the car fun to drive.
