Is my gsr engine over heating?
okay guys i have a 96 civic dx with a gsr swap and my stock temp guage is broken so i put a auto meter water temp guage and it reads 210 F is my car over heating. also does any one know the normal operating tempfor a gsr also when should my fan kick in thanks in advance
the thermoswitch should be providing continuity at 196-203 fahrenheit.
if the fan isn't working, then start by testing the fan switch. pull the plug off and jump the 2 wires in the plug. if the fan comes on, then the switch is defective. if the fan does not come on then inspect the wiring between there, the fan, and the fan relay. and of course make sure the fan is functional just in case.

If it doesn't go over 210F EVER, then technically no. 210 is the max it should go. Honda cooling fans generally come on about 200-206F, but some come on sooner. It all depends on how accurate the coolant temp switch is and on how accurate the coolant temp sensor is and again on how accurate your gauge reading is. Where exactly is the gauge getting it's reading from? Did you install a sending unit for the gauge? If so where did you locate it? Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it unless you having any driving/performance/coolant/oil issues or it goes above 210.
