Sweet Amp/Bass tube build for 96 Del Sol
Wow, what a project. Something so simple took way too long cause I went cheap. Del Sol's aren't known for their trunk space ergo limited subwoofer capacity if you still want to maintain trunk space and put your top in the trunk as well. So I won a cheap 8" bass tube off of ebay for $30. I figured the speaker would be $hit but I told myself if I blow it than I'll buy another. While waiting for shipping I planned for the rack/tube by purchasing some carpet, wiring, connectors, etc. Got the car wired up, no big deal, if you want pics for that i'm sorry. The tube finally came and I got to work. Started hacking up a piece of plywood that I had laying around in my garage.
Pain in the a$$ when you're using a miter saw and a drill. Anyways cut to the chase got everything carpeted and put together. Tucked the wiring, added a few lights, drilled a few holes and finished product...... or so I thought.
5 minutes later...... smelling something electrical, :::burrrrueururuueureurueuuerue:: ....... silence. Turns out the speaker was a piece of crap. Pulled the speaker and the tube to get to the bottom of it. The wiring to the speaker was horrendous not to mention the speaker itself. They ran 16-18 gauge wire to a subwoofer. The connection from the cone to the magnet was only one single strand of copper wire per side. I was all WTF!!
So much for drop right in.... an hour later after using a dremel, soldering new wire and a little glue to hold the carpet down.....
Please scroll to the right to see all the pics and leave feedback. I would like to know what you all think and if i could have done something better.
