Default Another D16Z6 VTEC question - wiring

Another question on the swap....

The D16Z6 I'm buying to put in my 95 DX comes with the engine wiring harness and I will be picking up a P28 ECU. Will I still have to wire the VTEC? The engine harness will of course have the harness that hooks up the VTEC itself. But will I still have to wire it in somewhere, or is there another harness I can buy to make it just like factory? I know its not hard to wire, just wondered if there is a plug and play option. Thanks

nope you have to run the wire from the ecu to the shock tower plug.

hijack....i just picked up a 94 dx coupe yesterday and my buddy is giving me his sohc vtec out of his sol. what wires need to be ran from ecu to shocktower mount? i was reading through the faq's and the pics are not showing in the vtec wiring thread, i found this thread by doing a search.
i know this sounds stupid but where do you get the actual pins to plug into the ecu and /or plugs? do old pins just pop out with a special tool if i want to salvage them.
thanks for any replies.

I picked up some ECU plugs and removed the pins to use on the ECU end of my wires. My question is, how do I wire in to the shock tower plug? Do I need to find a scrap shock tower plug (car side) and remove the pins, just like I did on the ECU end? Also, can anyone show me which spots to put the new pins in?

Also, is there anything special to do to add the pins to the shock tower plug?

the pins should be any OBD0/1 female or male (I can't remember which on that side). Just insert the pins its pretty easy.

If there is something in that port its really easy. Look inside the plug and push up on the tab with a small screwdriver or pin and pull the wire out.

If male first:

then

if female

that's because your car is not factory pre-wired for vtec. only the 92's were.

you need to take the 2 wires on the ex/si engine harness side and run them into the cabin.

Oh yeah I knew that. But you can also wire them into the blank spots on the existing shock tower plug on the car, then run wire from there to the ECU. That way it looks factory, and unplugs just like factory. These are the two empty slots on the vehicle harness, that mate up with the VTEC wires on the engine harness

i have to concur. some people that come on here for help really have no business anywhere near the workings of a motor vehicle.

That is true, Ive been following your threads on here and other boards and you are the perfect noob. You are asking the right questions, searching and taking the replies all in stride and without hesitation. You are where a lot of Honda guys want to be, your just steamrolling into swaps and all kinds of projects on your daily. Keep it up. Soon enough you;ll be getting rid of your rig for another econobox.

Its funny you say that, because as I put this "project budget" together, I'm already wondering if I can find a nice clean coupe somewhere and do a full build, with full suspension, newer engine swap, wire tucks etc. LOL

are the shock tower pins and ecu pins different? They look a little different. If they are different and you have some extra shock tower pins, I definitely need a couple. Pm me and let me know how much. Thanks
