CT - 1995 Honda Civic VX with 181k miles - STOCK
Well, it is finally time to sell my beloved 1995 Honda Civic VX. I purchased this car in 2003 with 103k miles from the original owner. In the approximate 7 years of ownership, I have put on 78k miles. It served me three years at school in Boston (majority of time parked and used for trips back to CT), two years as my main commuter (100 mile daily commute will pile on the miles!), and the last two years as my winter vehicle.
My original intention was to swap the motor and have fun autocrossing, but instead bought a CRX. Instead, it has served faithfully as a daily driver, delivering over 40+mpg on many occasions and over 50mpg on a couple of tanks. I know, because I am ****-retentive in my recordkeeping and have the miles per tank and gallons used going back to 2003. The last couple years show lower MPG's, but I think that is attributable to only using the car in winter, when gas contains Ethanol.
The Good:
+Body is in great shape for 15 years old and 181k miles, only a bit of rust in the passenger rear wheel well and some typical scratches/pitting in hood
+Engine burns very little oil between 3k changes - probably less than half a quart. Much better consumption that my other 190k Honda!
+ Interior is in good shape, aside from the mismatch driver seat
+Comes with a decent Eclipse CD player head unit. Old at this point, but it works for me. At least one of the Pioneer speakers is blown at this point.
+I have ALL the records during my ownership. I have a good number of the records from the first owner. Whoever buys this will be getting a large stack of paperwork. All work (aside from alignments) was performed by yours truly. A TWO owner car!!!
+I replaced the timing belt, water pump, idlers last November or 6k miles ago; I replaced alternator last October or 7k miles ago. Battery was replaced in November 2008. New lower ball joints 32k miles ago and new Koni shocks 50k miles ago.
+Car comes with three keys and original owners manual. I have a replacement front amber turn signal to replace the cracked passenger side turn signal.
+This hatch will swallow a lot of stuff!!! I have transported over 10 tires/wheels, tons of college gear, and even a Jeep Cherokee transmission & transfer case. This thing will carry it all!
The Bad:
-A bit of rust from the last two years of winter driving
-I am a big guy and the original driver seat broke. I have since replaced it with a tan seat. It works, however it doesn't match the passenger seat. If image is your main purpose, you wouldn't be interested in a 15 year old Civic
-Will need new tires - Fortunately, because they are 13's, it will cost about $200 for four new tires.
-The muffler has rusted out, as seen in the picture. I didn't mind the noise this winter, made it feel like a race car. A replacement will only cost a couple hundred. There is also a rattle from the midpipe that I just ignore, the next buyer might want to fix it.
-Car is not for the faint of heart - Does not have power steering, anti lock brakes, intermitten wipers, air conditioning. Honda built this model for fuel economy and did not want to add the weight of these features.
-Car could use a tuneup, as I last replaced the plugs/cap/rotor/wires about 17k miles ago. Performing a tune up would probably smooth out the idle a bit.
-Front brakes could probably use a refresh, but at $20/rotor it won't cost much. Car shakes under hard braking, may or may not have warped rotors. Again, $40 for new rotors and you will be good to go.

I am hoping to get close to $2500, given the condition and full records. I am assuming either a hardcore commuter looking for the ultimate gas sipper or someone looking for a swap candidate will buy this vehicle. I hate to see it go, it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Yes, I realize KBB values this car in excellent condition at $2k. I think this car's condition warrants the higher cost. Car is currently registered, insured, and is up to date on emissions.
Car is located in Litchfield County, CT. If interested, send me a PM or email (mlodsin at yahoo dot com)
Thanks for looking - Mike
