where can i buy unwelded collectors?
I've used SLS for a while now for flanges. I've always made my own collectors on a jig I adapted for my harbor freight bandsaw. My collectors are very nice, so I've never outsourced. I managed to tweak the hell out of my bandsaw and make a very reliable and accurate jig design. Well, recently I got in a crunch and felt I could justify the cost and use the time savings by ordering a premade collector from SLS.
Well, I received the collector and...I'll never do that again. I figured with SLS's tooling and capability that these collectors would be MINT. Well, this thing is crooked as hell. Two of the sides of the collector are taller than the other, and it's going to definitely affect the symetry of the manifold. Worse even is, that the two longer pieces aren't next to each other, their on a diagonal, so there's no orientation that can allow symetry. On top of that, you pay extra for the 4.5" collector, and it's advertised as "T3". So, I receive it and it's not 4.5", it's 4 5/16's at best. In addition, the opening at the base isn't NEARLY close to T3 size. So, after I cut it down, I MIGHT have a 4" if I'm lucky.
I make nicer collectors than this on my harbor freight bandsaw and my jig all day long. I felt mine could only be exceeded by a mill and a high end jig, and the difference truly would only be seen pre-welded. I have a feeling this isn't the poor quality they put into their own manifolds either, just in collectors they send out. At least I'd hope so. Using this collector truly reduces the quality of what people have come to expect from me. This collector has forced me to make the decision to make a different style of manifold that uses a non symetrical shape, but in the process will take more material and time to produce. So, I've paid out and lost time and money.
So, like I said...never again. I'll continue to utilize SLS flanges, and continue to shuffle them business, as I have for years. The flange quality is very good, and though shipping delays have increased a bit since the time when they first began producing them, they've never hit the 6-8 week mark like BMC used to back in the day. Every company has issues from time to time though, and I understand that. Feedback is meant to help, not hurt. I can only assume BMC got a handle on their lead times, and I hope SLS gets a handle on the crappy collectors. Just like I have no idea if BMC ever fixed their shipping time issue (because I never used them again), I'll never know if SLS fixed their collectors.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

this was a fine read,
you are right and i should make them myself, the only issue i have is that i dont have a band saw but a chop saw. and also 40sch isnt cheap to make mistakes for a first timer,
for now, i purchased some plastic pvc pipe so ill try to make a jig with it, way cheaper,

Brad at Brewspeed is awesome!
He just did some t4 divided housing with laser cutout wastegate flanges. And the fitment was top notch as well as the service. Here are some pics tacked up.

been getting my collectors from BMC and they fit up GREAT at a fair price.
lead times are a bit longer than i'd like (1-2 weeks usually) but so far that hasnt been a big issue.

I checked his website, but he doesn't have collectors advertised. How much did that setup run with the pipe lasercut for the WG?
