does v tec work if knock sensor dont work

does v tec work if knock sensor dont work
i have a 93 honda civic with gsr in it and the knock sensor comes on whe the engine is warmed up. icant tell if the v tec is working though. so i replace the knock sensore, will the vtec work. if there any harm done to the motor if i dont replace the knock sensor?
