2002 Accord Ex V6 Auto, won't start, power cuts off.
So this morning I found my car not starting. Checked the battery which is in excellent condition, checked my steering wheel to see if it was locked, replaced my starter with a new one. My dome lights would come on when i stick the key in the ignition, but while switching it to start (II), all power cuts off. Can't shift out of park when the key is at II and when i tap on the brakes, the power also cuts off. Any help is appreciated, please.
first...did you check the starter relay? how about the main relay? does the car crank? ( i wouldnt think so wit the power interuption). we need more info please
you need a 9 volt battery. and an ohm meter. the volt battery is shade tree but it works. you also need two wires with alligator clips on each end. do you have these?
Sounds like it could be a voltage drop in the battery cables since everything seems to lose power when attempting to load the system.
Also, exactly how did you test your battery?

Rick, i can get those supplies, ohm meter and voltmeter same thing correct? what do i need to do with those...
phootbag, the battery is a month old, duralast gold, brought it out to autozone to get it tested.

with the relays and your volt meter (if it has the ohm meter too) you check for continuity on two of the terminals. with the battery and those wires you check that the relay opens and closes as you apply voltage on the other terminals on the relay. what two terminals i have to check in my database. but there are only 4 terminals on those so its not too hard to figure out LOL give me a minute. i'm helping a guy bleed his coolant system right now online LOL gotta go check on him

okay now there should be continuity between terminalls 1 and 2 when power and ground is applied to terminals 3 and 4. you should also hear the relay click open and close as you apply power and remove power
looking at the diagram driver side under the dash fuse box, i dont see a starter cut relay...

I would be concerned with a voltage drop in the cables from the battery since you mentioned a loss of electrical power in other circuits when trying to load the system by turning the key to start.
true. like the battery clamps being loose. but i was just trying to rule out the relays. the clamps being loose would be the first thing to check though huh? LOL sleep affects us all i guess LOL
the relay is in the relay box on the kick panel (side area) under the dash on the drivers side. the coupe and sedan are the same. its the relay in the lower right corner
yeah its under the dash-not in the side of the dash. basically the brake pedal will be right near where youre looking. that part that as left of your left leg is the kick panel. the relay box is behind that
okay i found 3 relays back there, 1 big one(1inx1in) it reads honda, 38300-sv1-a11, flasher 12.8v 85 c/m, 27w+....and then 2 relay(1x1/2inc) tyco vfm-11f41-z06, i used a 9 volt battery and all opens and closes, do i have to check the current in those are is it still good?
well it a 17 step process but you have all the tools except the honda PGM tool. (i have one...costed me $3500.00 bucks) but you can test everything else. and you probably dont need the honda PGM. a basic OBD2 scanner will probably work well. i will post these steps later. its quite involved and i might do better to just e-mail you the procedure. PM me your e-mail address
