How to tell if my b series tranny is ls or b16
Yeah I just got anew tranny from shop but
I don't think it's a b16
at 80 mph in 5th I'm at 3k
at 100 mph in 5th I'm at 4k
but during 1-4 if I shift at 8k my tranny goes to 6k
rpm. So what tranny do I have?

Click ---> HERE <--- for a nice transmission calculator.
The only true way to tell what you have is to split the case and start counting teeth.
Question, and this might not be a huge slam dunk determinant, but:
What code is on the transmission? Meaning is it an S80, Y80, Y21, S4C, etc?
A B16A tranny (if the code isn't washed away) should be Y21 or S4C.

But 1-4 is too short of gears for ls. Maybe a b16 w ls 5th?
I have a friend a w ls and it won't go past 7200. When shifts at 7200 it goes down to 4300..

If you can drive the car normally by going 1-3-5 then it's an SI for sure!
Also if you get on the highway and vtec is about to engage you also have a B16 trans.

The transmission itself will have ZERO affect on how high rpm your ENGINE can turn.
Now the gearing itself will certainly affect how many rpm the engine drops when shifting into each gear under acceleration.

Well regardless, 800 extra rpm at top end shouldn't add an extra 2200 rpm on bottomhw shouldn't be able to shift at 72 and go to 43 and me at 80 to 60 yah know?
