Default 80mph at 3K

it never came to my mind but my friend bought a 97 integra LS and we took it out for a spin and i notice he is doing 3.5K at 80mph, while my eg (b18b, ls tranny???) is doing 80mph at 3K.
he is running on 195/50/15 while im running on 185/65/14. is the rpm off by the tire size ?

Could also be a faulty tach.

could be. i used to have a "gsr" tranny but i highly doubt it was one since at 80 i was doing 3K. i decided to trade the tranny from my brother since i though he was an LS cause he longer gear ratios, but after today when we took the ls for a spin i notice my gears are longer than an LS

Tire size will make a difference.

The engine doesn't have to work as hard in the lighter car...not sure if that would factor in; it would make sense though--if not one of the reasons mentioned above.

Actually, no it won't.

Incorrectly sized tires will make the speedometer inaccurate.

However, regardless of tire size, the tachometer will read the same for the same speedometer displayed speed.

Ding ding ding! That's correct. The tire size has no effect on the relationship between the speed indicated on the speedometer and the revs indicated on the tachometer.

An Integra LS should indeed say that it's going 80 mph when turning 3500 RPM in fifth gear. Regardless of what size tires you use.
