I've looked inside the engine and found that the right fan by the radiator (if your looking into the engine) doesn't come on at all, but the left one does when the a/c is on. Is the left fan for the a/c and the right fan (that doesn't work) for engine cooling. If that's the case I was wondering if I need a new thermo fan switch or sensor? and if it is how do I go about replacing it.......

 

i'm a newbie on integra's, please explain to me like you would a baby. lol. this is just a car to get me to point a to point b. nothing against them tho.

 

The left fan is engine cooling, the right can the A/C condenser fan. The engine fan usually comes on when the thermostat opens up which signals the fan switch to turn on the fan. The temperature needle would be about half way when the fan turns on. If it does not turn on, the fan switch might be faulty causing possible overheating issues. Or the thermostat isn't opening at all, not allowing coolant to circulate.

You can always remove the fan switch plug, have the wires touch so that the fan is always on. That's what I did for my car because the fan switch is faulty. It wastes more electricity though...so I wouldn't recommend it.

 

where is the fan switch plug in the engine, and seems to pretty easy to replace..right?

 

i was also going to replace the head gasket because my car seems to leak ALOT of oil, and it seems that alot of that is coming underneath the distributor cap, in that area.

 

If you plan on replacing the head gasket, and you are possibly leaking from elsewhere under the bay, replace the Distributor O-ring, valve cover gasket, grommets, and spark plug tube seals, while you are in there. Shouldn't be more then $30 for all of them.

 

thanks for the info, could you or anyone else tell me where the fan switch or (thermoswitch) is at? so i could go ahead and replace it. a diagram or pic. would be great...not so good at terms.

 

Do not mind all of the arrows. This picture was taken from our How to: Change your Thermostat guide. The temperature sensor you are referring to is the sensor with the big plug on it. This is a picture of the thermostat housing. To find it, follow the lower radiator hose back to where it meets the engine.

 

well i changed the thermostat along with the temperature sensor yesterday and the fan still doesn't want to turn on! Im thinking could it be the radiator fan motor or the fan assembly in whole? because there is a sensor on the fan that connects to something else, i'm thinking that sensor could be bad, but i would have to buy the whole fan assembly....how could you check.

 

Bypass the fan switch so that the fan is receiving a constant 12v. If it does not turn on, then the fan is shot and you need a new one. If it does, then I would start tracing your wires and see if there is a short somewhere.

If you don't know how to do it, you can always just take the fan into your local auto parts store and they'll bench test it for you at no cost.

Also, replacing the head gasket can get a bit pricey, even if you do it yourself, and is a long process. I would make sure that you're not leaking from anywhere else before you do that...

 

well i think i found the problem, i brought the radiator assembly up to o'reillys to test the fan and everything was ok, the radiator motor and sensor. i'm thinking it could be a bad relay or (fuse) to the radiator to switch the fan on to cool the motor. If thats the case can someone show me a pic on which fuse it is on the fuse box. I dont have the manual to the car to show me.

 

oh....and i don't have a fuse box cover, i have to remind that my car is a P.O.S. so if the diagram is underneath the box cover it would useless to say it underneath there.

 

is your car vtec or non vtec? i'm gonna look at the non vtec first since they might be the same

well my radiator fan to keep the engine cool has pooped out. i have changed the thermostat, temp sensor, a fuse, a relay, and i brought the radiator to o'reillys to test the motor, and the sensor and the motor work fine. I'am sooo frustrated my fan does not want to come on and my car continues to overheat! what else is there out there to do to make my fan work!

 

then you have a broken wire or a bad ground. the sensor/switch is good. as is the relay and fuse and motor so it has to be a wiring issue. do you have a volt meter and can you read wiring diagrams? if so then its an easy fix after you check the wiring out which might take an hour to do. (at most)

 

no i suck with electrical stuff. how much would it be to go somewhere to replace the wire inside the engine that hooks up to the sensor on the fan.
