H23A1 spun connecting rod bearing
Hi guys,
I have a 93 Prelude SI with H23A1. The connecting rod bearing spun on the third journal. I know the right way would be to tear the motor apart, get the crank machined etc. etc. However, I'm wanna try replacing just the bearings and see if it works ok. Metal shreds of the bearing that spun have been taken out of the pan, and any other place I saw them.
Book says the clearance needs to be 0.25mm to 0.76mm. With new STD size bearings, these are the clearances according to plastigauge:
#1 0.38mm
#2 0.38mm
#3 0.78mm
#4 0.38mm
So has anyone dealt with this before that can shed some light on it. I know I may end up needing to overhaul the whole motor, but I wanna try this first. If it spins again, then I'll take it all apart. But to do this the way I wanna do it, would I need 0.75mm or 0.50mm oversized bearings? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is the bearing stuck to the crank? if so I would replace/ take it to a machine shop.
also, get a magnetic oil drain plug for the metal shavings you probably missed. Get some old( not completly dirty ****) and change the oil let it run, clean the plug. Do this once or maybe twice.

If I were you, I would just do it right the first time, and tear the motor down. In the long run, you'd be saving yourself the time, and hassle, rather than doing it twice.
