removing of powersteering system?
Its leaking like hell and i figured why not?
i've already read a lot of threads on it but all but i'm getting are mixed messages
some people say there will be no problem others say your rack will fail and you'll go flying off the road..
what i think i know:
powersteering rack w/o the ps will be harder to turn than a manual steering counter part
confusion:
- some people state no feed back
- failed racks
- not safe
add more if possible
lmk thanks

I would like to find out as well.
Mine started leaking like crazy so I removed all the lines, and pump on the crank. It looks a lot better but im not done putting my car back together so im unsure about the rack failing.

as long as there is PS fluid in the rack and the lines are looped, it should be okay. It would be better if you added a breather to the looped setup. I just looped mines and its been like this since April 08 and hasn't given me any problems. Obviously, you'll feel more of the road when driving and parking requires more work.

I used an existing PS line. Well your situation is much different then mines since I already had fluid in mines. In order for me to remove the excess fluid out, I just turned the steering wheel back in forth until only some was left....for your situation, I would guess a funnel would work.
Add a good amount, turn the wheel all the way left/right until you see PS fluid squirt out. Not sure how to help in your situation though...
a setup like this is ideal if removing the PS system.

Cheaper.

Will take down images upon owner's request.

i took mine off my old 96 teg for about 60k miles with no lines looped and no fluid, worked fine. its currently out of my 99 ls, i kind of looped the lines but didnt clamp them down so they probably arent looped anymore. point is, ive done it and had no problems, with no fluid
You may luck out and not have any problems or like people said your tie-rod might pop out and you'll fly off the road, depends how u drive. But regardless, the ps rack has a diffrent ratio than te manual rack and it actually makes it harder to turn than a manual, sometimes it may even be tough to steer while driving unlike a manual that is only tough to steer at a stop.
Just last week I went to the junkyard with my ps rack and ask them to trade for a 95 manual civic rack, he told me throw 10 bucks to pay for his guy to pull it and I had a deal. Try it u might have the same luck if not a manual rack aint too expensive!
