Do Skunk stage2 street cams give much gain over ITR cams?
I am sure this has been asked before, but I have been out of the game for a while, so please excuse me. I have a 97 JDM ITR motor that is stock except for a Victor X manifold and and a DC Sports header. I was wondering if it would be worth it to try some Skunk stage 2 street cams over the ITR cams. I don't race the car, I would just like a little more power.
agreed...that manifold is a poor match for your motor and will cost you power, even with larger cams. The tuner stage 2 cams would definitely make more power on your motor than the stock ones will but you'll really need to change your intake manifold to at least a Skunk2 or ideally a performer X for biggest gains.
on a stock motor they wont make much more. On my ITR motor i made 5 PEAK whp but it carried the power out another 500rpms.
So instead of making 197whp@8000 and power nosediving, i made 202@8500 and power gradually fell off. With the valvetrain i went from revving from 8300 to revving to 9500.
1/4 times on ITR Cams 14.1@98mph
1/4 time on S2S2 Cams 13.4@106mph
Big difference was with the valvetrain i was able to stay in 3rd gear to finish the 1/4 mile
