How do you remove undercoat off of paint without ruining paint ?
The crx I picked up from a member here last fall is a very nice car all around, needed a little bit of work here and there and I am done with most of it except putting a d16z6 in it. The ONLY really bad thing about the car is the previous owner before him had it sprayed in the engine bay on both fender aprons and the radiator support area some rust proof which almost looks like a thin layer of undercoat. It is kind of sticky, i can actually scratch it with my finger nail and see paint underneath , but it is not hard and does not flake off like under the car undercoat does. Does anyone have any ideas of how to remove it without having to repaint ?
If its still gummy maybe some tar remover will be strong enough to remove it then claybar the car and wax where needed
Yep, if you can find some type of solvent that will weaken it like tar remover or paint reducer for example, then you can use that in combination with a cheap plastic scraper and see if it comes off. The key is finding something that will soften the rustproof without harming the paint below.
k thanks guys. this is the only thing I could thing of myself just not sure what to buy to try it with
