How much fuel do you go down the track with?
This question is aimed at high hp turbo cars with sumped tanks. I would just like to find that balance point at which the car has a little margin so as not to run out of fuel, and the amount at which the excess fuel adds unnecessary weight. I used to not care and I'd just put 5 gal in and the car w/me in it weighed around 2515. How much fuel does a 700+hp Honda using Q16 use during the entire run? Now that I think about it I guess there are more factors that go into that. H22's use more fuel than B18's. More Q16 is needed than C16 to achieve the same afr's, etc. Anyway, a little discussion would be nice.
with a oem gas tank that is sumped, with no cell built inside of it, i always run a lot of gas. seems its pretty easy to starve the pump with that set up, especially on decel
fuel cells seem to be legal in all of the class now a days, i'd look into doing one of those. pretty inexpensive way to cut some weight.
Yeah. If I was in a season-long battle with another competitor I'd probably do that. Until then, I won't spend money on losing weight.
I dont think the little weight reduction your getting by running the fuel low is worth the chance of going lean and blowing your motor. Thats just my opinion though
yeah, we used to always run a full tank of gas (10 gallons) when we were running a sumped oem gas tank to avoid starvation....
...putting a 5 gallon fuel cell in was one of the best things we did, aside from having to carry less fuel for weight, safety of having less fuel on board is nice as well and with a fuel cell setup it seems like fuel supply to the pump is a lot better as well

3/4 seems to be to my cars magic number. on accel im fine but when i throw the chute, i still get a little hiccup. abd by the time i make the turn off it is fine. but below 3/4 takes a little while longer to come back around. it is weird i can hear the pitch in the fuel pump and i know where it is and what it is doing. sooner or later it will be getting cell'd. but bigger things goin on soon hahaa.
We just pour the entire jug in and it does fine... There is a hiccup or two at the end under braking...
You trying to save some of that gas money?

i hate the stock tank sumped, i want to do a fuel cell but even then im nervous as to when to put gas in, making sure not to overfill a cell..that is under the car
I am off topic and I apologise (sp?),I am installing a dual sump on my tank right now, what do you guys use to return to the stock tank when running a sump? I am thinking about heading to a Waterjet shop I have right down the street and have them cut me some stock pump holder tops with a -6, -8 or -10 M/F bung on top and then annodize them.....
