Icon3 Bushings, Linkage, or something else???

OK so when I put my car in gear it has alot of play in the shifter still. Almost feels like im still in nuetral. Ive herd its the bushings, Ive herd its the linkage, and I dont know what to think. Also how do you tell what kind of tranny is on your car? I just bought the car from a kid and he said it use to be an automatic but he got it switched. PLEASE HELP!

It would be worn bushings, which causes the shifter to have movement. The only way to find out which tranny you have is by opening it.

If you get the front of the car good and high off the ground, you can wriggle under and inspect the bushings. One is on the tranny and the other is directly under the shifter.
