I'm planning my next engine build, and I'm having trouble deciding what head to go with. Not interested in going H22. From what I can find, the H23A1 and F22Ax heads flow similarly, but the ball and socket rocker design in the H23 is not ideal for higher RPM. I only plan to rev to 7-7.5k. I don't plan to mill the head to increase compression, just get it decked if need be. Will be treated to a mild P&P, and probably Delta 272 cam(s) with appropriate springs
i concur.
the biggest difference between the two heads in a performance scenario is cost- F22 being cheaper in most instances, and valve overlap "tuning." with DOHC this can be done with a set of adjustable cam gears. SOHC must be set at the point of manufacture.
the other benefit that i appreciate about the F22 head/valve cover is the compact dimensions compared to any H-series or DOHC F-series. this won't matter in an accord or prelude, but it makes a big difference when swapped into a civic.

What's the difference about this head from the other f22a ones? I thought it was just the cam/ecu/intake mani.
The reason I ask is if so, since he's already planning on upgrading the cam and hopefully ecu to suit, he could get away with any f22a head and an intake manifold upgrade. Could maybe save him some time searching.

Anyway, cost isn't really much of an issue because I have both heads at my disposal. The only price impact will be the cost of 2 cams instead of 1. I'm also trying to find out if having an IAB spacer really helps or not. I've read in one thread that it can help with top end
Well if that's true you're all set. You said you were upgrading springs anyway, so whatever f22a head you have is just as good as the f22a6 for your purposes.
As far as the rest of your predicament, not sure.
