Default I need help! Car flooded

We are having flash flooding where I am. Ok, here is the deal. Water got into the car I am guessing half inch deep. The car started up fine. Moved it to higher ground. I turned it off. A little later I started it back up and it was running kind of rough and the CEL came on. Then it finally died and it won't start back up. Do you guys think it is the computer? It may be a day or two before I can deal with the car. What should I do about water damage inside? Is the car toast at this point? Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Car 96 EX sedan 5-speed.

You need to retrieve the DTC(s). Most connectors outside the cabin are weathersealed. Water shouldn't be able to easily enter the connector. The wiring inside the cabin, however, doesn't use weatherseals. There is a good possibility the ECM got water inside it.

Start by retrieving the DTC(s).

Yeah, get the CEL checked out to see what it is.

Very first thing you should do before even leaving the car is...

1. Pull out all the spark plugs.
2. Remove intake tube.
4. Crank engine over and blow out all the water in the cylinders.
5. Pour oil into each cylinder and crank engine over a few times.

It is essential that you do this immediately in case water has entered your cylinders. You don't want any rust forming in there.

As far as not starting, I don't know what the problem is, but follow the steps above, wait til it's dry outside, change the oil, then continue diagnosing the problem.

The vehicle was started and ran fine. I don't think removing the spark plugs to condition is necessary. Though, in certain situations I agree with what was recommended.

I think the ECU is hosed. I just get a solid CEL when I try to pull the codes. Water definately got in the ECU.
