getting ready to finish itr swap
i bought a db8 a few months ago with plans to swap in my itr motor. the car that i bought was a shell with no motor because the motor was stolen. the jackers cut the engine harness on the chassis side on both sides of the harness. so they took all of the conectors associated with the engine harness and i was left with a bunch of wires to sort out.
now im at the point where everything is done except the wiring harness. the motor is in and everything mechanical is hooked up. i have a wiring harness connected into all of the engine connectors and i have all of the corresponding chassis side connectors that i got from a junkyard which i matched to the wiring harness.
my question is should i just match the color of the wires and solder them like that or is there some sort of procedure i should follow when i connect the wires to make sure they are connected the right way?
thanks in advance

just solder color for color if you did get the plugs from the exact same car and year. use heat shrink also, then wire loom and electrical tape. that should secure your worries. I had to do the same thing to my car as you did; color for color but also used a Haynes manual for reference along with other manuals like Mitchell to be sure they go to the correct areas..
im ok with that except that there are a couple of the same color wires. thats where i get mixed up. like i think threre are two or three blue with red strip wires.
you just soldered it all up and worked fine? you didnt throw any codes?

You can't do that! Not only are there multiples of certain colors, but there is a lot of variation in the colors at the ECU!
Go to Sears, get a multimeter for around $15. It has a continuity setting that will make a chime. Have someone in the car that can touch each pin with one probe, and run the other probe with an extension (you can tape a wire to the probe) and verify each wire on the engine bay side.

so your saying
-go to where the ecu is
-take off the ecu
-put one side of the multimeter on a pin that i know what its use is for
-test each wire on the cut side and see if there is continuity
-then on the cut wires side, maybe put a piece of tape telling what each wire does
is this what i should do?
if so does anyone have some sort of diagram that says what the pins are on the connector to the engine wiring harness?
