Alternator Whine???

Default Alternator Whine???

I have a 1990 CRX that just started to make a whining noise around the timing belt/alternator area. Noise happens while car is moving and sitting still. Alternator and timing belt have been done in the past 3 years and the alternator belt has correct tension on it. What could the culprit be?

Most likely a bearing of some sort... do your own checking WE are not THERE!

You can check if its the alternator bearing by removing the alternator belt, run or drive the car, if the noise is gone its the alternator bearing, but theres not too many other things it could be unless you have AC and /or power steering.

No power steering, but does have a/c. However the a/c stopped working, but the belt is still installed.

i have the same issue on my 91 ef sedan. alternator is louder than a bish. gonna get a used one this weekend and replace it.

you sure the belt just isnt loose
alt belt have to be nice and tight to run perfect

Tension is fine, I'll have to take the belt off and see if it stops.

Take off the A/C belt too. Its pointless anyway.

its probly the bearing, pull the belt off and the wheel will wiggle if its bad

Remove the A/C belt as previously stated, and listen again for the noise.

(If your A/C stopped working, your A/C compressor clutch could have failed, and is causing the noise. )
