At my house we always buy from locals selling their engines. This could mean a local company getting rid of a built motor or a local looking to swap up from their stock motor.

It's a great way to get a motor where (1) you can question the previous owner about maintenance or modifications and (2) you can get a nice, stock engine.

Granted engines like these don't often come with start-up warranties (though a business might offer one). But you don't have to worry about shipping and you can check out the engine before you buy. Sometimes you can even drive the car the engine is coming out of before you buy the engine!

I would steer clear of buying from people or businesses online who have poor or little feedback. I would not buy an engine from a private seller who is going to require shipping unless it's a very, very well known member. Even then I'd be wary.

hmotorsonline. Hands down. A bit more expensive, but quality is second to none.

why not buy a rebuilt one that you still have to break in because its a true rebuild? i could get that to you. got shipping companies and customs brokers too that i use. where you located? forget the used "low mile" motors

Hmotoronline.com, is very good, many people can vouch for them, however, they can be quite pricy for some engines/parts.

Steve can be very temperamental but I recommend HMO as well.

If you have the opportunity to buy locally I would recommend a leak down test and if possible a compression test as well.

I dont trust "remanufactured" engines. They turn the cranks and install aftermarket undersized bearings. .010 thicker. But thicker than what? All machine processes are different. That why Honda uses 4 different size bearings for each journal. They also use 2 different sized pistons on some models. Reman units arent built as good as factory.

true that hondas are color coded. on one particular engine however we couldnt do it. the bearings it needed were unavailable. it was that 5 cyl sngine in the acura vigor. only 3 bearings were available in the entire us through 3 different dealers. custom made bearings were gonna cost 7 hundred bucks. the oversized bearings are a standard by .010 incriments over the standard size bearings. some places lie. we dont mess around here

I suppose in a case like that, your options are limited. Ive installed several hmotorsonline engines at the shop, 2 in my cars. I drive my Euro R H22 hatchback pretty hard. Some weekends at the track as well. Ive had it for 3 years now. Doesnt use oil or smoke, still runs like a raped ape. I can personally attest to the quality of hmotorsonline.

lol, call for pricing on all Honda engines.

I like how they list the 94-97 Del Sol as B16A2, too funny

Yeah, B16A3 not A2

I also like how they list JDM engines with a number after the last letter.
