I know this is an open question. But say after 100kmiles you wanted to rebuild it. How much would the parts cost, and labour?

New pistons, cams, valves, springs. oil pump, water pump, etc. etc.

The engine is in good condition(@ 85k) but I'm thinking ahead...

Do it yourself, saves you a lot of money, just takes twice as long.

If you take it to a shop to have them do it, it could cost twice as much as just the parts.
It is actually almost cheaper to go aftermarket parts.
Pistons: type S ($400 maybe)
Cams: ask around ($300 - up)
Valves, springs, and retainers: go with aftermarket ($700)
Oil and Water pump should be cheap
Get head work done at a machine shop. 3 angle valve job and 1/2mm overbore on the valves ($400)
Gasket set ($150)
Timing Belt and Balance Shaft Belt ($100)
Tensioner for both ($150)
New Spark Plugs ($60 +)
MSD 6a ($150 I think)
Walbro 255 fuel pump ($110)
VAFC ($310)

Thanks. That is what I was thinking, to go aftermarket and build something just that little bit more special..

I would love to have a go at assembling the engine myself. But getting the engine and box out is a big job. Would prefer to pay some enthusiast to take their time and do a good job.

how much would it cost to rebuild the gearbox? synchros and bearings etc...

Just out of curiosity, how good of a mechanic do you have to be? I'm asking because if I had the right tools and proper instructions would I be able to do it having no formal mechanical background?
